6'01" 205lbs DOB: 07/30/91

Wilson was drafted by the Rangers in the 20th round in 2010, but he chose to attend New Mexico. He was a two-way player as a freshman, but academic issues forced him to redshirt last season and he ultimately transferred to Lamar Community College this year. Wilson has continued as a two-way player for the Runnin’ Lopes, but his professional future is on the mound. He throws his fastball around 90 mph and he has touched 94 mph in the past. He also throws a curveball and a changeup, both of which have the potential to be Major League-average offerings. Wilson is athletic, has good size (he’s listed at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds) and repeats his delivery well.

that background suggests to me he's signable

for those who are, why are you putting him behind Baez? he's got a better approach already, he has better power and is at least a wash defensively. right?

One is a shortstop.

I'm not really sure he'll have more power than Baez, either. Actually, it would be hard to say who has the best power in the system between Bryant, Soler, Baez and Vogelbach.

yeah, but Baez is projecting as a ML 3rd baseman, right? and Bryant is a generational power talent, right? if those guys have as much, we're sitting pretty.

You can project all four guys at 25-30 HRs (project with ordinary development, not just ceiling) without stretching even a little. It's a pretty awesome turnaround from two years ago when we had nothing in terms of power.

and that's pretty fantastic

Lamar doesn't keep statistics, but they do have some "notes" for different games.

2/2 - 1 hitter

2/9 - 2 hitter

2/16 - 2 hitter

He finished 11-2. Lamar is also where Brandon McCarthy came from.

I'm pretty shocked we've taken no HS guys at all.

Wasn't that Theo's MO during the early rounds when he was in Boston?

Where does Bryant slot in the top 10?

Baez, Bryant, Almora, Soler, Johnson?

Soler, Bryant, Baez, Almora, Alcantara

How soon before I can stop seeing the ubiquitous monosyllable names of bad pitchers like Burke, Kirk and Cates in the minor league box scores?

My top 5 would be...

1. Soler

2. Baez (pure upside and position over Bryant)

3. Bryant

4. Almora

5. Johnson

ask me tomorrow and my 2-4 could change (I could say 2a/2b/2c to make it easy), but I'm pretty comfortable with Soler at #1 and Johnson at #5 at the moment. Then I probably got Alcantara/Vogelbach at 6/7 although I don't really do an actual top 10 until the halfway point in the season.

he sounds like a huge ass

Sounds like a typical 18 year old athlete who is just realizing he's not a superstar.

eh, being drafted will only encourage him
