I'm apparently losing my mind, because I could've sworn I saw the Mudcats were a Reds affiliate through 2011. Internet playing tricks on my brain.

You aren't mistaken. The first Carolina Mudcats squad moved to um ... Pensacola?. That was a AA affiliate. Subsequently, the Kinston Indians moved and took the Carolina Mudcats name. My hunch is that the affiliation with that ownership is strong enough that they aren't a likely candidate to move, but I'm not certain.

Edit: I think we probably stay at Daytona. With their horrid experience in the Cal League in the past, I doubt Theo would want to go back there. Could be wrong, but I doubt it. If we can't get into Carolina, I doubt they'll move for moving's sake. Actually, my biggest issue with Daytona isn't with the weather. That's just nature. All the reports about the bad field, though, that bothers me as a fan. I don't know if anything can be done about it, though.

Not familiar with Tyler Bremmer, but have to love the 3/27 BB/K in 27 IP.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the former regime drafted him twice, out of a ... JuCo? ... and then Baylor. Off the top, I think his fastball tops out around 90. Throws a change, I think, that comes in around 80/81. I think he has a slider that comes in around 84/85, and a curve around 75-77. Off the top, none of the pitches, IIRC, are plus, and he might be more a guy with 4 average pitches. To be honest, haven't pondered him in awhile. Off the top, I think the change is his best pitch.

Off the top of your head you know all that? Off the top?

Yes, I saw him a few years ago. Nothing recent (haven't been able to travel as much this past year, work, car accident really put a damper on me going to minor league/college games). Of course, I could be thinking of someone else, but I'm almost certain I'm thinking of Bremer.

You said "off the top" three times.

Torreyes had a good 2nd game. He's hot and showing pop. Looks like it's going to be a good month for him. Here's hoping he can string together a few good months.

Curious what the reports on Rosario are since he's gotten back, particularly velocity wise.

In other news, Alberto Cabrera probably wishes the delay stuck. Dude is getting hosed by the Generals right now. 5 ER in 3 IP on 9 H and 2 BB with no Ks. Woof.

Yuck.

I'm happy with Bryant pick tonight, but it's disheartening to know that right now Pierce Johnson is the entirety of the Chicago Cubs pitching farm system. I don't really have a lot of faith in Vizcaino's health.

Paniagua, Maples.

What about Duane Underwood and Paul Blackburn? Too early to tell but there's some young talent about to start pitching.

But the point is well taken. After the euphoria of avoiding TINSTAAPP starts to wear off, you really do have to stop and realize how little pitching we have coming forward. No more "Well, you have to include Appel or Gray" every time we talk about what we might have for 2014.

we really, really need to come up with some pitching via trade this deadline, no matter what happens next in the draft.

Shark and Travis Wood are pretty damn good and I assume Matt Garza is staying here unless they can get a really good package for him built around pitching. You add a David Price and you have four stud pitchers. What needs to be fixed is the bullpen but I think that's a pretty quick fix via free agency.

Even the homer in me can't bring myself to get overly excited about Maples, and I'm a pretty shameless homer. I think he's going to provide just enough K/9 to keep me teased, but ultimately break my heart.

I know that it's something to file under easier said than done, but if we were to pool as many of our tradeable assets as possible toward Price, we'd have Price, Smardz, Wood, and E Jax as a very nice 1-4. Even if Vizcaino were to emerge as a starter, it's likely not until 2015, so we pencil in Villanueva at the 5 spot, but also sign a few Maholms and Feldmans to minor league deals or low risk big league deals, and we have a very nice rotation.
