The little things are the big things... Castillo's inability to make the 1-1 look like the strike that it was tipped the AB in Choo's favor.

Of course it's on the umpire ultimately, but if Castillo frames it correctly, he would've gotten the call.

He has to be the worst catcher in the league at receiving/framing pitches

Not disagreeing. I agree that Castillo is a terrible pitch framer.

His defense has been so disappointing. He looks much more like a backup than a starter. His defense would be acceptable if his bat were well above-average, and his bat would be acceptable if his defense were above-average, but neither is the case.

Agreed. If he could be Soto on defense he could get away with being a starter. But with mounting evidence that he's an awful defender and Dale's comments recently about needing to be better at defense, etc. you have to wonder if he's gonna start losing playing time. Thing is, though, we literally have zero other options at catcher.

To think, Matt Weiters could be our backstop right now. Thanks Jim and Tim!

Pretty sure it's the Tribune you can thank for that one.

EDIT - Or am I thinking of the Simpson draft? Or both?

Not really. Tim just got too cute with the pick.

He's had some interviews lately where he said he wanted Wieters but wasn't given the budget to sign him. He ended up going for more than twice slot value for our pick.

Pretty sure the rumors at the time were that Wieters was Wilken's guy too.
