NHL Players' Association assistant Mathieu Schneider stated that the NHL's general managers have approved all the recommendations of the competition committee on Wednesday. Those recommendations include the grandfathering of visors, hybrid icing, shallower nets and video review on all four-minute high-sticking penalties.

 

Beginning next season, all players coming into the league will be required to wear a visor. Players who have played more than 25 career NHL games will not be forced to wear a protective shield. In terms of hybrid icing, the format will be tested in the preseason before it is collectively decided whether it will be used in the regular season.

 

The nets will still remain the same in terms of height and width, but the nets will be four inches smaller in depth.

 

Now that the general managers have approved the concepts, they will be presented before the NHL's Board of Governors on June 27 in order to seek their approval.

 

Hybrid icing is a mixture of touch and no-touch icing. It gives a linesman the discretion to blow his whistle and stop the play if he believes a defending player will reach the puck first.

 

If the linesman believes the attacking player has a chance to reach the puck first, he keeps his whistle in his pocket and lets the race to the puck play out.

 

The linesman always will side with the defending player and blow his whistle if he feels the race is a tie by the time the players reach the faceoff dots.

i don't really get this trade. doesn't bernier want to start? reimer seems pretty established in toronto, unless a trade is happening or they're just opening this thing up, it seems kind of odd to give up that much for a backup goalie. i must be missing something here

Bernier will go into camp as the starter, I'm sure. I just think the Leafs didn't think they could count on Reimer. This isn't the same as Crow not getting any respect either, imo.
