Chris Davis now has 30HR and 79 RBIs along with a 1.133OPS and .724SLG putting him on pace for 59HR and 156RBI. If he managed to finish the season with .724SLG that would mean he finishes the season with the 11th highest SLG since 1950. 4 of those are Barry Bonds including an .863SLG in 2001.

Soooo when do the Davis and HGH/Steroids stories start coming out?

I know that's kind of in jest, but in his defense, he has always kind of been a hulky lookin' dude. He'e been getting hits and hitting home runs all over the diamond, he's officially "figured it out"

Davis isn't like Bautista in that it wasn't that he had previously been a mediocre player, but that he just hadn't gotten the time at the big league level to develop. Bautista had about 2000 MLB ABs before breaking out, Davis about half that, if you consider 2012 Davis' breakout season. I think most people felt there was a potential masher in Davis (though not what we've seen this year).

I know his name was bandied about a little as a possible replacement for DLee a few years ago, but the idea wasn't real popular.

58 extra base hits for Chris Davis already. That puts him on pace for 111 extra base hits. He's also managed to raise his SLG to .731 to go with a 1.137OPS. It's just getting stupid at this point.

think about how ridiculous davis has been, and then think how crazy it is that bonds put up a 1.368 ops over 4 seasons at ages 36-39

holy hell, Carlos Gomez is a 7-win player for the last full calendar year

(so is Yadi Molina, too)

Gomez had a huge second half last year, iirc.

I think someone mentioned it on here somewhere, so I may be paraphrasing this incorrectly, but apparently Gomez had always had the ability to drive the ball with power, but the Twins insisted on turning him into a slap happy lead-off Juan Pierre type because he was fast. Sometime last year he supposedly approached the Brewers management and said he'd be more comfortable trying to drive the ball with power the way he knew he was capable of and they let him try it out and now he's the player he is today.
