AND? And what? You dont think I was implying that a reality exists where those 2 players could be had for just Bryant, right?

I'm saying I'd probably trade Bryant for Harper alone.

It might sound crazy, but I'm not so sure that I would do that. He's still only 22, but he hasn't really gotten any better over his time in the bigs, he's down a few years of team control, and unless he learns to dial his style of play down, you have to look at him as being an injury risk.

His performance could explode to meet his talent level at any time, but I'd take my chances with Bryant.

I'll take the younger player with more certainty and give up the years of team control for him.

Yeah it sounds like he may have been affected by early symptoms (depth perception issues, short term memory loss, decision making) during his time with the Cubs.

Zing!

No I'm serious. I've seen it mentioned in a few articles including a couple written before he died given the timing of when symptoms first began to appear and the nature of the disease. Here's one, I'll try to find others but the search just brings a ton of articles after his death now. One talked about the issues he had with short term memory his last year or two with the Cubs: http://www.stlsportspage.com/CARDSBASEBALL/tabid/91/entryid/1908/whatever-happened-to-wendell-kim-the-sad-story.aspx

Knowing his successes with San Francisco, one wonders if some of the symptoms of the disease were beginning to show in his last years in baseball and he did not realize it.

One of the 10 symptoms of Alzheimers according to the website alz.org is trouble judging distances. “For some people, having vision problems is a sign of Alzheimer's. They may have difficulty reading, judging distance and determining color or contrast,” says the site.

Another symptom is: “People with Alzheimer's may experience changes in judgment or decision-making.”

According to the Mayo Clinic (MayoClinic.com) “Alzheimer's disease usually progresses slowly over seven to 10 years. Your cognitive abilities slowly decline. Eventually, the affected areas of your brain don't work properly, including parts of your brain that control memory, language, judgment and spatial abilities.”

Kim was an aggressive 3rd base coach when he was with Dusty in SF. It was his MO. I think your theory may have a few holes.

We've done this before, but let's try this again

Missed 7 of them from before I started following...Mostly pissed at myself for spacing on:

Gaetti, Girardi, Mueller, White, and Izturis. Not mad at myself for forgetting Lillibridge ever played a game for us.

I'm terrible at this, got around 50%...and still got the first 2 names you missed. :)

Did about 50% as well which is ok seeing as I know nothing of 90s Cubs teams and have apparently repressed most Cubs outfielders from the last ten years. Can't believe I forgot Fukudome!

Also, Jeff Baker was once our opening day first baseman. Jesus [expletive] Christ.

Also kinda shocked Reed Johnson never made his way into an opening day lineup. Feels like he should have.

The last time I did this, I remember that I forgot him and was disgusted with myself.

Also stunned Dusty never got Neifi into an opening day lineup.

Damn right. If you're reading the replies after that link before doing it, you're basically asking for names.
