I'm going to be really annoyed (surprise!) if we're basically done and cruising through the rest of the offseason outside of dumping Castillo and maybe Wood.

We've had to suck for three years because of the stupid "there's no difference between 78 and 68 wins" success cycle mumbo jumbo. Now we've got a team that is right in the fattest part of the curve on the value of wins, and a huge pile of tradeable prospects, and we're just going to poke our heads up long enough to reward one of Epstein's Boston friends and then go back into conserving resources mode.

it'd be amazing if everyone just blocked kyle and no one replied to him ever and then we could pretend he didn't exist.

I haven't seen this article posted or talked about anywhere. The title was preposterous enough for me to click on it, so I had a heads up that some non-sense was coming, but it still prompted me to shout, out loud "what the f---?!" Merry Christmas, everyone (especially Luis Valbuena).

says there right in the link that phil rogers is involved, so that would explain why it has not been posted or talked about anywhere.

I don't normally read a lot of sports writers or bother to memorize their names...so he never has any idea what he's talking about? The Luis Valbuena era...I'm still upset about it.

While I disagree with the premise, it is surprisingly well written.

I kind of like referring to the last few years as the Luis Valbuena era. I personally prefer the NoBueno era.

Still. Leave Bryant in Iowa a few weeks. Hurts nothing, especially if they pick up a left fielder. Gets Alcantara, Baez and Valbuena in the lineup at the same time to see if Baez can do something or if Valbuena is your second baseman for the bulk of the year and depending on the OF situation if things are shuffled there resulting in Valbuena at 3rd, FA OF in Center and Al Contra at 2nd. I don't have much hope for Baez.

Despite what Phil Rogers says, I would be pretty shocked if Bryant hit 49+ HRs as a rookie. I don't think I'd be the only one.

While I don't disagree, "take a run at" and "hit 49+" aren't the same thing and I'm going to nitpick your post like that because you're a stupid jerk.

I would be pretty shocked if he hit 35. Homers are really hard to come by.

If he could actually hit like his slash numbers would lead you to believe he could, I wouldn't be that shocked if he hit 35+. But since he's going to strike out like a million percent of the time and be lucky to hit .240, yes, I'd be pretty shocked at it.

Dangit. Now I have to pretend that strikeouts are overrated and he's obviously going to hit 40+. Well-played.

Didn't know if this was posted before,

According to whiff% and Eno Sarris' criteria, Pedro Strop had the best slider in baseball among relieversSlider

Pedro Strop (332 thrown, 31.9% whiff rate)

occurred to me reading another thread that brian mcrae was my favorite player when i first started following the cubs so i decided to see what he was up to

His sister in law was my 2nd grade teacher. She was notorious at my elementary school for being extremely mean. She was, in fact, extremely mean. Every single student got yelled at at some point for something. I think I got yelled at because during reading time I read something that made me laugh and I chuckled underneath my breath.

"WHAT'S SO FUNNY, LOGAN!?!?!"

Ugh.

Brian McRae is also on my [expletive] list forever because of his wife... there was a sports card/memorabilia convention at the local civic center and a silent auction was taking place. I had convinced my father to bid $10 on a Whitey Ford baseball card. No one else had bid on it and I think it was valued at $50 or something. Would've been my most valuable card which was a huge deal for me. Lots of people were there bidding on a whole mess load of items. There's 10 minutes left and what happens? Brian McRae's wife and my 2nd grade teacher saunter in and she just signs her name on everything and overbids on all of it without even checking to see what any of it is. Just signs her name, up and over, sign her name, up and over, sign her name, up and over. Like an [expletive] silent auction robot sent to crush your hopes. So only one person got to take home memorabilia that night, and I lost out on what would've been my most valuable card and the crown jewel of my budding collection (I was 10 at the time), because Brian McRae's wife took his money and just bought [expletive] she probably didn't even know the value of just because she could. Wasn't even a charity auction so it wasn't like she was doing it for a good cause, she just decided to take it all.

So [expletive] Brian McRae and [expletive] his wife and [expletive] his sister in law. They all suck and were shitty parts of my childhood.
