"We always refer to them as a sleeping giant, and I think they've awoken." #Cardinals GM John Mozeliak on the #Cubs. #MLBTonight

"They certainly have their foot on the pedal," Mozeliak told reporters, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Lester will likely face off against Adam Wainwright in the MLB season opener April 5 and Wainwright expects Wrigley Field to be rocking once again, a welcome sight for the Cardinals ace.

“This is what I came up seeing. Crowded Wrigley. Cubs-Cards and everybody coming to see the rivalry. Seats packed for batting practice. Place rocking during the game," Wainwright told the Post-Dispatch. "I expect the fan base there to be excited with all that’s happening for their team. They’ll be talking trash, yelling at us as we warm up, like they used to do. Like they haven’t been doing.

“Man, we love that stuff.”

Da [expletive]? Are they big fans of ESPN's crazy math? Lester is awesome, but he is literally the only guy of true awesomeness who has been added.

Already had to deal with a couple of older dudes at work at our Christmas party asking me something to the effect of, "Why the hell didn't they just keep Samardzija instead of giving this guy $150M? Now Samardzija is on the White Sox."

So I mention that they got Addison Russell and they didn't even know who he was, which, fine, I get that some, if not most, people don't follow the minor leagues even a little, but [expletive].

Why didn't you start with Lester being better and Samardzija not wanting to sign with the Cubs?

Well, I think Russell is a more important point than what I think isn't that big a gap on the former point and, as to the latter, had they been willing to pay for Samardzija's value at a rate proportional with what they paid for Lester's value, he would have gladly signed with the Cubs.

I see no problem here. They seem like fine fellows with good heads on their shoulders.

So I'm trying to use this thing again and it won't let me edit it. What the hell am I doing wrong?

If you hit File -> Make a Copy, it creates an editable copy of the spreadsheet. Best I can do

Sweet.

OK, pick apart.

How far off am I?

For reference, my probably optimistic running tally for the offseason: http://i.imgur.com/HKiI4ge.png

That's pretty close to mine, but I didn't make the Bryant to the OF switch and had Coughlan at a half a win instead of likely 2 wins from Valbuena. I also had Montero closer to his Steamer projection of 2.6, and Lester closer to 5 wins (wishful thinking maybe), and the pen at 4.5

Can't believe I was higher on Valbuena than TT

I saved my optimism for the rookies and the catching platoon.

i'm perfectly fine with this, but the bench might be too optimistic

you already factored in Castillo, so you're left with:

Tommy La Stella

Chris Coghlan

Justin Ruggiano

Ryan Sweeney

i actually like TLS more than most, but Coghlan, Ruggiano, Sweeney are basically replacement level; i think you've almost got to be happy to break even with this group, maybe top out at 1 WAR if you think Maddon works platoon magic or whatever
