I noticed you said that you don't see Soler as a high OBP guy in the comments, Kyle.

What are you calling a high OBP?

.340, .350?

I think both Bryant and Soler settle in around .320, .330 in the big leagues.

I think Cubs fans are going to be stunned when Bryant hits like .220 to .240 every year. He's going to be awesome because of walks and power, though.

Sounds like Russell (in a non-Javy bust world) is slated for 3B rather than SS.

Said they'll have him work some at 2nd and 3rd in spring.

Obviously, Theo can't bring up Russell playing SS without hurting Castro's feelings or tipping his hand on trading Castro.

I don't think Soler is going to have much trouble OBPing in the .340-.350 range with his power, approach, and ability to hit.

Bryant is a different story. He won't hit for enough average to have a high OBP.

I don't totally disagree with you on Bryant, but Soler's skill set indicates he should have a slightly higher OBP (unless of course he totally busts).

if .325 is the over/under on kris bryant's OBP in the major leagues, i'm putting my life savings on the over.

career? even money?

I'll take that bet. too much upside (in the bet).

if he's under .325 then this rebuild most assuredly becomes a failure

MLB average is .315 or something. The rebuild can't be a success with Bryant as an average or very slightly better OBP guy with defensive value and insane power?

Daaaamn, Rizzo ended up with a 5.6 fWAR. 6.0 would've been possible if not for the injury. Don't know the last time we've had a position player over 4.0. Derrek Lee?

Rizzo is the highest since Soriano in 07 (6.6 in 135G).

Last 4.0 or higher was Marlon Byrd (LOL) in 2010.

Less than 2 months since Bryant's season ended and it's like you all forgot he's an engine of death.

who struck out in AA/AAA about as much as adam dunn did in his MLB career

it's not like this is a new opinion for me.

i think he'll hit HRs and will usually hit for low average with a few .270ish outlier seasons.

Who whiffed on 36% of his swings in the PCL, a league in which Chris Rusin and Casey Coleman are considered pretty good pitchers.

Combined with the Cubs just being absurd strikeout machines, so it's easy to be wary about such things.

I can't wait until some more guys show up a la Soler who rock the whole "Cubs Way" of all-around player development, but I'm pretty sure if Bryant is not going to be that guy. He's going to be some kind of awesome freakmonster.

And still managed to hit .300 with a truckload of home runs and walks.

The tunnel vision with K's/whiffs with Bryant, I get it but it's getting taken beyond what it is. You can't make a single number pass/fail like that, with Bryant there's plenty of reason not to freak out about it.
