Bet he'd return to Chicago to play for the White Sox over the Cubs. Guy was a Sox fan growing up, and had multiple anti-Cubs messages on his MySpace around the time he was drafted (yes MySpace)

Yeah. It's far enough away anyway to not really be all that meaningful of a quote.

It's also his hometown(where he'll probably keep at least some residence) asking a meaningless question. Nobody's going to say, No chance, I hate it here in stinktown.

Yeah, you don't want to burn any bridges when teams are giving out big contracts.

If you're wondering... here's the card below. I bought the card and brought to the game for him to sign it. I have pictures of that day of him playing and pretty sure i got the ticket of the game somewhere so I can prove the "authenticity" of it although it wouldn't be a certificate like most places do. Like you said, it doesn't matter to me how much $ I could get because I'm keeping it unless I LITERALLY have to sell it. I know how those companies do their autographed cards. I have several of those types like Castro for example.

Now if we're going by book value, it's probably my 96'-97' (I think that's the right year) MJ A Cut Above card although I haven't checked book value in a few years, but I know that card is worth quite a bit. It has the buzzsaw insert at the top. It was ~1:300 packs. Maybe that card is the most expensive card I have.

BTW... does anyone know how much it cost to get a card graded (PSA/BGS/etc)? I really need to do this with some of these cards.

I am pretty avid card collector and with a card that wasn't signed specifically for the set, PSA will only authenticate and grade the auto because the card is technically "damaged." Trout is pretty much the reason for Bowman being so popular and there was a guy in the suburbs that hoarded his cards before prospect cards were so coveted. He probably got about 20% of what he could have if he had held them for another year.

Offensively, is 2014 Chris Coghlan pretty much the high end of what we'd hoped for Brett Jackson to become?

Not even close. Jackson had 20-20 potential with a fairly high BB rate and solid CF defense. His upside vs. present day Coghlan is a silly comparison.

This is kind of random, but whatever happened to the Cubs hosting the All star game at some point? Obviously it ties into the Wrigley rennovations, which were originally supposed to be done this year (for Wrigley's 100th), then were supposed to be done by 2016. Are the Cubs still lobbying for it, or have they given up?

I think they used the bribe of hosting an all star game in 2016 during the course of negotiating for the Wrigley renovation. It was tied into the Cubs moving into Weegham (Wrigley) in 1916. 2016 is supposed to be an AL park, though. So who knows.

They'll probably wait until the renovations are complete at this point, so 2018.

Baez has a higher K rate than MLB pitchers as a group.

What happens if you turn a big chunk of those sac bunts into K?

A wizard appears and charges you with a quest.

Removing every single successful sacrifice hit tightens the gap to a Javy only being 1% higher.

ASGs are used as carrots to get cities, counties and states to pay for a new stadium or renovation. Cubs are doing the renovations on their own. I would not be surprised if Wrigley still does not host an ASG in the next decade plus.

Of course, they could always get one just because it has been forever, but all of the cities fronting money will be taken care of first.

Some Cubs related stuff from Law's chat:

JR (Vegas)

deGrom for Addison Russell, who says no?

Klaw (2:07 PM)

Cubs.

Mike (Chicago)

Arrieta repeat in 2015 or due for a fall... back end starter?

Klaw (2:11 PM)

I don't see anything in his stuff or delivery that says this is unsustainable. I think the Cubs struck gold.

Steve (California)

Surprised you would turn down deGrom for Russell if you were the Cubs. Can you expound? DeGrom is cost controlled for one less season, has a near full season of success as an MLB #2 starter, and fills a big need where Russell does not. Is it a matter of bats > arms for health reasons?

Klaw (2:36 PM)

Russell is a potential perennial All-Star. Degrom is good, very good, but I don't think he's going to be CYA good.

Tony (Chicago, but soon Phoenix)

In regards to the Chicago Cubs, can they be a wildcard contender next season?

Klaw (2:53 PM)

Add two starters and they could. Lester and one more.

I was hoping we'd be more under the radar nationally, but it seems that our chances for next year are getting some love (even though I think it's more like they could contend for the division). If anything, it's far more pessimistic locally.

Oh and:

Scrapper (Chicago)

Does Syndergaard for Starlin Castro make more sense? Who says no to THAT deal?

Klaw (3:05 PM)

I think that makes more sense for both sides, if the Mets like the contract.

eww, no. and why the hell WOULDN'T any team like that contract?
