Could also mean he's found something and fixed it.

Not saying we should have gotten him just saying he has posted at least some of those stats.

I'd actually be kind of pissed if we spent 10 mil on a player the caliber of Haren-he's remarkably Jackson-like and you could project Hammel, Mcdonald and/or Arrieta to post stats equal to Haren at a much lower cost

Depressing month.

I thought we wouldn't get to 10 wins. Worse yet is looking at May, I don't see how we win 10 there either.

There is a chance we could actually get to 40 losses (probably only 36-38)

I knew we wouldn't be good but I didn't think we be this bad.

To seriously be looking at 40 losses in our first 60 games is tragic, certainly didn't see that coming.

This may turn out to be the longest season yet of the Theo regime.

What happens when/if we deal Shark and/or Hammel?

The only possible bright spot is how do you not bring guys up if we have 50 losses by mid-June?

Another bright spot to my season. I got tickets to the washington series in june with the idea I would get to see Harper. Last year, I saw the Angels and Trout. So of course, Harper out until July. Maybe I can see a Shark-Strasberg match up instead.

At the risk of setting off the CubinNY signal, pitch framing, for the most part.

In that case, I'm surprised that the Cardinals are negative. I thought Molina was supposed to be quite good at pitch framing.

I know for sure Jose Molina is supposed to be great at it. Not sure about Yadi, though I'd guess so if I had to.

iirc, Yadi is pretty average as defensive catcher except for his arm, where he obviously excels.

I'm gonna lift another PSD post here...this one from Gato.

Sports Money on YES talked with Tom Ricketts on the business of the Cubs:

I'm watching an interview with Crane Kenney on the same show.

Kenney seems really excited to have moved from public to family ownership, says it basically opened the floodgates. Everything hinges on rebuilding the ballpark...Refers to Wrigley Field as a stage, and a unique one...says players go from great facilities for ST and in the DR to Wrigley and it's decades behind where they are....They want to design Wrigley with what baseball will be like in the future in mind, mentions the mental part of the game...Amateur spending and PD spending have increased by 102%...signing bonuses by 218%...67% increase in PD alone...says the Trib would never have went for this plan because they were not thinking long term (for various reasons)...Kenney says his job is easy so long as the owners have a conviction to do it...I'm watching it on TV right now so just got hit with the plug that the media rights deal has the potential to be *record breaking.* Lotion and tissues are at hand.

OK back....

The two separate deals is confusing, but they claim that the deal could be for multiple billion (aka record breaking). There's a long term and short term strategy...little bit of puzzle...by 2019 they'll be "free agents" so we'll see that LA and Philly money, very confident they can beat those deals....wants to know how media is consumed...sounds like they're interested in Google...**** like this makes me excited...says he thinks they can carry a channel, the brand is big enough (a likelihood anyway)...Kenney is killing this interview. No clue why I can't find the interview on Youtube.

I really love that this hit YES for some reason. You can tell these guys are shooting for a Yankees-esque behemoth, better than the Yankees even (moving forward obviously).

Well, [expletive].

So if all that [expletive] came to fruition (and we all know how shitty and far fetched it looks right now and that the Ricketts have looked incompetent in various instances), and the Cubs were a Yankees level behemoth in 5 years, would you guys "forgive" these first few years of [expletive]?

I think I would, but I'm not quite as hard on the Ricketts as some here.

The Cubs being a Yankees level behemoth in 5 years in large part due to a rights deal and ballpark renovations that wouldn't have anything to do with the team's performance wouldn't justify the first few years of [expletive]. It'd sure be nice, though.

I'm not really asking if it justifies it (nor am I only talking about the team's performance. I'm talking about everything terrible that is happening/has happened).

I guess the term "forgive" is kind of open ended, though.

All that's really apparent is they aren't willing to go into their own pockets while paying down the debt load. If in 5 years, they've doubled(or more) their TV contract and are making an extra 30-40 mill just off the renovation. Plus not having the 30-40 mill of debt payments and also having an extra 10K or so per game in attendance, likely at higher prices than currently....It's a monster.

None of this is new though, it's pretty much what we're thinking anyway. Unless some just haven't thought it all the way through....

They aren't mutually exclusive (now vs. 2019 explosion), so Ricketts buying the team, at least for the short term, has been disappointing.

I'm honestly not seeing anything in there beyond what we've been discussing/hoping for for a while now; it's still tolerating a lot of [expletive] for years in the hope this works out.

yeah, all that stuff is basically "here are some whoever bought the team would hopefully get several years from now, assuming he doesn't accidentally burn the team down." tom does not get credit for any of that.

It all comes down to whether or not you expect your owner to dip into his own pockets or not. The debt servicing eats in to the profits quite a bit, especially if it is as high as we've heard.

It's not Tom or any of the kids here that we need to be focused on, it's Joe. And if they opened up this Ricketts family trust to borrow money from themselves-its a brilliant business move. It just sucks for us. The debt service payments are very likely being pocketed by Joe here.

Likely the reason someone with literally zero interest in sports goes out and purchases a team. He's winning in every avenue here. He makes money hand over fist, followed by allowing his kids to pursue their dream, and eventually the family name lives on forever, as the owners that finally capitalized on monster advantages that anyone could have done.

It sucks. It's reality, but it's worth putting up with as we evidently aren't going anywhere as fans.

Added-This in no way changes my mind that Tom and the other kids are in fact "running" things and doing it poorly so far. But even they are working under Joe's parameters. It's up to them to get the renovations started and the TV deals done. My confidence isn't high on them truly maximizing the TV deal, but they'll get something obviously and at some point the renovation [expletive] gets done too. Not great work though, since it should have happened long ago.
