It's okay guys, let them like concussiondome or whatever they're calling Hockey nowadays. No one's perfect.

You correlate hockey with concussions and then defend college football?

That's smart.

I was referring more to Dexter's off the rails comparison to Baseball, but sure, I'll take the bold stance that CFB is way better than Hockey.

I don't know what they need to do to fix him, but they'd better do it. That's depressing.

this isn't subjective at all. college sports are the second-lowest form of sport, right after high school. and barely so, in that they just slightly whittled down the available talent pool

i mean, like what you will, but college football, like college basketball, is mostly bad badness with an occasional flutter of not bad

Slightly? There may be two guys on any given high school field who can play at a level of college football worth watching. And often times there are none.

The latter part of this statement is complete lunacy. Thousands and thousands of high schools play football and 125 FBS teams do. By sheer numbers, the gap between high school and college is far wider than the gap between college and the pros.

most of the dudes on a high school football team do not qualify as talent. those that do, play college football if they want. fewer than 10 percent of the players that will play college football this year will see a second of playing time in the nfl. some of the really good teams are decent to watch, but that's more often due to quality coaching and having a few elite players than an abundance of above-average players. the burden of being good on an individual and on a team level in the professional game is dramatically greater than in the college game. noticeably greater than say, the difference between AAA and the majors

you may enjoy college football for a number of reasons, none of which i particularly begrudge anyone over. quality of competition is not one of those things

Why does more talent on the field mean better or more entertaining product?

The talent between pros and college is vast (always love the argument that a great college team could beat the worst pro team) but many times the actual game is better and more entertaining.

You can watch some excellent, mistake free football on saturdays from guys who will never even go to a camp and it's good football. You can also watch some horrendous mistake filled NFL games from much more talented guys, and it's awful football.

what are the arguments against hockey hockey than "i don't like it", and "it's not popular"? obviously this is completely subjective, but you could point out tons of specific things to dislike about baseball or college football.

hockey is still the purest of the 4 major sports, by far.

What do you mean by purest? If you mean the nature of the game, then I'd have to completely disagree. Between the celebration of fighting and the huge portions of the game that are basically a scrum for possession, it's the least elegant sport I can think of. It's also not one of the 4 most popular sports, but that's neither here nor there.

If you mean pure in the sense that it's the least corrupt or something like that, I'm not qualified to know. I also don't think any of the other major sports are corrupt to the point where it impacts my enjoyment of them either, so maybe I'm missing something.

Like you said though, this is mostly a subjective exercise. As such, I think we can all agree that hockey is the worst and we'd all be better off if it were expunged from our collective memory.

fighting is barely a part of the game anymore. the blackhawks in particular almost never fight. least elegant? hockey is poetry on ice. it is magical. i guess maybe it's not as elegant as a fat sweaty guy throwing a ball at another fat sweaty guy with a wooden club. i think you have a warped opinion on the game because it's not one of your interests.. i don't like soccer but i'm not going to say "soccer sucks and and all the games end 1-0 with a murderous crowd rushing the field".

and by "4 major sports" i was clearly talking about the 4 in america, which hockey is definitely a part of.

I was also referring to the most popular sports in America.

I think you have to be a super hockey die-hard to describe it as poetry on ice. Like any sport there's moments of beauty, but a huge percentage of scoring happens on broken plays or other unintended consequences, way more than any other sport. I'd certainly like watching hockey a lot more if more goals weren't the result of a rebound/scrum at the net, or a deflection off a random stick/body part.

Soccer, although no single soccer league has the interest of the NHL.

Hockey is certainly the fastest team sport in America.

As far as goals off of broken plays, it's more rare than you think, and deflections are often planned, as many times a player is specifically in front of the net for that purpose, as it's the most effective way to put a puck past the goalie with the advances in goalie equipment and strategy.

For a second there, I thought you went full-SEC and were thinking NASCAR.
