Depends on what you're looking for.

National prospect guys won't talk Cubs as much, but it'll be among the best info when they do.

For general news and infrequent game updates, the affiliate twitter accounts are all right.

@IowaCubs

@SmokiesBaseball

@DaytonaCubs

@KCCougars

@BoiseHawks

Some more local coverage that has some decent insight:

@cubsden

@TommyBirch - DSM sports guy so Iowa specific

There's more I'm probably missing too.

Thanks -- I was already following the national guys. There seems to be a gap in accounts who are mostly focused on Cubs prospects. I will add CubsDen and Tommy Birch to my feed.

Unless Jed was straight up lying, they went to him and told him what was up. Valbuena is having a breakout year, and Vitters has more of a future in the organization. He knew what he was getting into, and he decided to do it to keep his money. More power to him, and if he wants to throw Twitter pity parties I don't particularly care. There's nothing that needs to be done though. He's not going to play regularly if Vitters/Lake are healthy, and unless he starts trying to whine to the media about it, that's all there is to it.

He's clearly trying to get released so he can sign with another team. His $2M from the Cubs is guaranteed so if he gets released he'll get that plus whatever (league minimum?) deal he gets. It's clearly a money thing. He knew the situation when he signed and it was reiterated to him when he was sent down to rehab.

The team ones are good for transactions, links to stories on players in the local newspapers and in-game updates.

Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan 9m

Hoyer to WSCR on Stewart tweets: "really unprofessional and there will be consequences."

I'm not sure how they're going to punish him, since releasing him and eating the money is exactly what Stewart wants to happen.

I'm not familiar with the legalities, but considering how specific and accusatory he's being, they may be able to fine him.

Indirectly, the obvious consequence is who's going to want to take on Ian Stewart in the future when he apparently can't understand a simple and fair sequence of events.

i hope hoyer has seen little big league, cause all this stewart guy needs is two coaches talking in his presence about the going rate for a has-been third basemen who can't get any hits and we'll have an mvp third baseman on our hands.

Given that he's clearly willing to pull stunts like this to try to get himself released, is it time to revisit the possibility that his nagging ST injury was conveniently timed to keep him from being released before his salary became fully guaranteed?

No need to revisit when everybody knew that was the case already.

Triple-A Iowa third baseman Ian Stewart faces a fine and possible suspension by the Chicago Cubs for his Twitter rant about his status in the organization.

But he will not be released, as Stewart suggested himself during a late night tweet to his followers.

The Cubs were upset about Stewart’s comments, but would not say what the punishment would be.

“We spent the entire morning dealing with an issue that doesn’t help us get better as an organization,” Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said. “That’s not how we want to spend our time. What he did was really unprofessional and there are going to be consequences. Beyond that, I’m not going to comment.”

The Cubs suspended Milton Bradley for negative comments he made to the Daily Herald in September of 2009.

I doubt it. He clearly wants to be playing in the majors. I do think, however, that he assumed he could take his time coming back, performance be damned, and just be handed the third base job regardless of how anyone else was performing.

After he was a bust last year, I have no idea why the Cubs wasted their time on this bum again. Pretty frustrating.

Because he was injured last year, supposedly had his injury "fixed," there were limited options at 3B (both internally and externally) and the Cubs probably saw some upside.

I'm not sure what is so frustrating about it. Are the $2M or whatever they lost that bothersome to you? Or this goofy Twitter story where a player who is playing terribly at AAA is disgruntled over not having a MLB job?

This is basically a beyond worst case scenario for that move and it's still extremely inconsequential.

Many questioned Stewart's character last year, when he chose to "chill" at home rather than rehab with the team.

In a vacuum, it may appear inconsequential,(what's 2 million here or there), but just a hypothetical, lets say the Cubs pass on Stewart and Fujiwaka(another questionable signing given the Cubs current status) and use that $$ to up their ante for Aninbal Sanchez, maybe does he sign here?

I think there's a several of things going on here

1> It's pretty careless for him to make public comments like this. But it is really not an issue at all. If I were the Cubs, I'd simply say to Sullivan, Hey Paul, he's not on the Chicago Cubs 25 man roster and we don't have any comment.

2> I'm not sure what Stewart thinks he's doing, but I would guess he's just venting frustration. I don't think he's trying to send a message to the Cubs.

3> Who gives a [expletive] what Stewart says or doesn't say about his frustration? Move the [expletive] on.

I'm not sure what they can do. I guess they could put him on the restricted list, but I don't think that would get past appeal. It's probably best to release.

I don't see how you can say signing Fujikawa for 4.5m a year was questionable... And given the Cubs' current status? WTF? Is it not clear to you by now how much better off this steam would be if they had a reliable bullpen? It seems like you're basically implying that they shouldn't have tried to sign a reliever because "why bother because they aren't going to be any good?" If that's what you're claiming, you'd think this season would be the perfect example of why they should bother if there's an opportunity.

I don't understand how you pretend a player under contract repeatedly complaining about his status with the team and begging to get fired isn't a story. The most obvious follow-up question to the 25 man roster comment is Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, Albert Almora and plenty of other guys aren't on your 25 man roster either yet you have comments about them all the time.

This is a story, let's not pretend it isn't just because Sullivan wrote it and it's annoying.

Really?

It's pretty easy to see what is frustrating about it.

I see it as completely inconsequential and slightly hilarious. I have no idea why a fan would feel any frustration over this.

The fundamental issue would be that if they can make mistakes like this with $2 million, what does that say about their ability to spend $20 million?

But they've made enough good decisions in the last year that I think this should be overlooked.

I do believe this is a story, but we need to keep in mind that Sullivan is an ass who constantly takes cheap shots at the Cubs. Sullivan is doing his best to blow it up to embarrass the Cubs. Edited by BeerHere

It was a story long before Sullivan got to it. It was a story as soon as it was happening.
