I wish I had the last twenty seconds of my life back.

This. Also, I guess I really do not understand why someone is looking for every reason they can to be critical of Cubs ownership/management. Is it like if he can somehow convince NSBB posters that the new regime is bad, then NSBB posters could be some sort of agent of change that would lead to the Cubs being the greatest organization in sports for the next 50 yrs.

Anyway...The Ricketts family obviously made a good investment. Hoping a smart group of guys like that can lead the Cubs to the promiseland:)

It took quite a while to convince a lot of people that Hendry was awful. And it came down to the point that they didn't come close to winning as many games as they should have given their resource advantage. Ownership gave him money to spend and they spent it and lost. This group still has the same resources, but is spending a lot less and actually managing to lose quite a bit more often. They are seemingly capable of doing much better but apparently more than willing to take a dive and stay on the canvas for far too long.

I don't understand the point of asking about a person's motives for posting about the team they follow on a website devoted to the team they follow. What's the point of any of us saying anything on here? Fandom isn't a particularly rational trait, although the only rational way to go about being a fan is wanting to see the team you are a fan of win more games than the competition.

From August 22 2009 to yesterday, the S&P (assuming dividend reinvest) returned 15.5% annualized or 67.6%. Basically over the life of ricketts ownership of the cubs almost any domestic investment (with the possible exception of buying a home in bucktown) would look like a good one.

Haha. Never change jersey.

right back at ya big fella

Hey I'm not that big.

Is everyone that disagrees with you about everything being irrational or just in this case?

You should have a good idea how big you are in comparison to the typical human so I assume you're being rational in that judgement.

I am not saying that anyone should be above criticism. But there are certain posters here who treat the new regime like conservative pundits treat Obama. Every thread becomes reason for them to try to find ways to criticize, even when there really is nothing to be critical of. I also recognize that Ricketts gets some what of a pass because of their hiring of Epstein and Co. If he would have hired almost any other GM in baseball and we were on the current path, the criticism would be much louder here and everywhere else. But, they are still in the window of giving them a chance. I am all for questioning moves on individual bases, but to complain about everything gets somewhat tiring at this point. BTW..take this as a person who was probably anti-Hendry loooong before most:)

So since the new owners its been win totals of 75, 71, and 61. And then lets say we hit the vegas line of 72 wins in 2013 and then turn the corner go .500 in 2014. 5 years win totals 75, 71, 61, 72, 81. Assuming that scenario, what does the team need to do for the folowing five years for Ricketts and Theo to have been a success?

Personally, a team tanking with a sizable resource advantage for a number of seasons is inexcusable. Personally, if they suck for two more years and then win a world series in 2017 I dont think Id call them a success.

For Ricketts? He'd need to make the playoffs every year consecutively to balance out his first decade. 4/10 is a par score, 5/10 is a success.

For Epstein? Four would be enough. That'd give him 4 out of 8, which is

Fair or unfair or whatever, any World Series win is an automatic success.

This is the thing that bothers me. I want at least 150 meaningful games per season. Playoffs are a bonus for me and playoff success would be a huge bonus.

My expectation is to not have to light my June - September tickets on fire and to have something to watch on TV on weekday nights. When you take that from me for 5 years I dont feel like a WS reverses it.

The timing of this is terrible for me. So they are gonna suck from my age 23-28 when I am living within a couple miles of the park. They are wasting my prime enjoyment years.

Much of this may be true. But at the same time, there are plenty of people who act as though any criticism of any move is too much criticism, and that anything these guys do is spot on brilliant. The results have been despicable to date and they didn't have to be. They chose to be this bad. That is frustrating.

I think it's more of a bonus success condition rather than unfair to them.

If we go on a Boston-like run of contention but never win the World Series, I'm not going to throw Epstein under the bus for it.

Just curious, are you a season ticket holder (seems that way)? If so, when did you get your hands on them?

i split with my dad who splits with another guy whose probably had the tickets for 40 years. So only getting ten games its still really annoying and I cant imagine what a full blown season ticket holder thinks about these last few years.

It's not like you and Kyle weren't there pleasuring yourselves in the Theo hired thread. NUN is painting a picture of Paul Sullivan and not many other people in existence.

Because, at the time, we all thought that the hiring meant that there was absolutely no chance the Cubs would do exactly what they did.
