I'm starting to think a lot of this is well crafted on Crean's part. Bringing back the program but also bringing back the edge that the Hoosiers had on the sidelines with Bob Knight in their heyday. I'm pretty sure he uses that approach in recruiting too. Seems like fans and opposing coaches hate him a lot more that he has a good team and seems like that's what he I'd going for.

Oh, you'll find regular comments from me about what a weirdo he was when you guys were a heavenly dumpster fire

That's a very strange article. He is hardly beloved among IU fans. From what I've seen, the majority of IU fans respect his coaching quite a bit and are very glad to have him, but that's about it for Crean. Maybe that changes if he stays another 10 years, but right now I can't think of a single part of his style that is celebrated among IU fans. His energy on the sideline is accepted, his postgame handshakes are shrugged off, his tendency to keep recruiting is met with a mix of excitement and trepidation. His success in recruiting is rarely questioned, but his in game coaching is questioned constantly. If he left tomorrow, people would be concerned about being able to get another coach that can do as much as Crean has done for Indiana, but other than that they would have no special type of affection for him like loved coaches tend to have (for example, the portion of the fanbase that were that way with Knight).

Yeah, he was all smoke and mirrors at Marquette, too. Most students/fans I knew outright disliked him and nobody misses his in-game coaching, as you said. This was before his classy [expletive] you to the institution. I do miss the recruiting classes, though Buzz has done more with way less, IMO.

The Wall Street Journal's Blind Bracket is back. Apparently I really like Davidson and Arizona- both to Sweet 16.

IU, Duke, Florida and Gonzaga in Final 4. IU over Duke for the title. Only real upset I had was Ohio St losing in the first round. Other than that most high seeds did very well in my bracket.

Heh, that is pretty close to what I picked except I had Ohio State in the Final Four instead of Gonzaga. IU over Florida and Duke.

Crean's in-game coaching isn't bad enough that I would question him that much about it. The way he is recruiting and the way IU has performed the last season and the current season, I can't argue with the results. His sub patterns do confuse me at times and his insistence on randomly playing zone defense is weird but regardless most of the games that IU has lost recently I think they have been outplayed more than outcoached.

The reason some IU fans won't fully embrace him is that he isn't freaking Bob Knight. There is still that faction of the fan base that thinks the motion offense and man-to-man defense 100% of the time is the way God invented basketball. Our half-court offense under Crean isn't always great but it isn't the old Mike Davis CT3 offense either. Overall the team is built to run and play at a fast pace.

I had KU over MSU for the title in WSJ thing. But my bracket was a disaster. FF was KU, MSU, NCST, and Wiscy. Bucknell made it to the elite 8. So did ISU.

The SEC is a community and I'm sorry if you don't get that.

Not sure if joking :-s

We're all in it together. When Tennessee landed Jalen Hurd the instant reaction from SEC fans was that of anxiety but respect. It feels like Hurd plays for all of our teams.

They were allowed into the most prestigious football conference in the country. I'm not sure what else my reaction should be.

Not become a brain dead toothless idiot like much of the rest of the conference's fans?
