Awesome. I remember this game. This was the season that got me into baseball/the Cubs.

Before that year, my interest in baseball could barely be called casual, and I liked the Sox because of their colors.

By the way, this game was in the same series as the game that got Deshaies mentioned got him knocked out of the league.

At 3:30 of that video, is that guy wearing a Diamondbacks hat 3 years before they existed?

From Wikipedia,

On March 9, 1995, Arizona was awarded a franchise to begin play for the 1998 season. A $130 million franchise fee was paid to Major League Baseball and on January 16, 1997, the Diamondbacks were officially voted into the National League.

The franchise was known about a few months before the game, logos/gear must have already been designed and sold around that time as well.

I'd forgotten how good Dunston was to start that year. This game was highwater mark for the season. He'd then go .227/.263/.338 the last 2 months of the season.

What were his triple slashes up to that point?

God damn.

He never did like to take a walk.

i remember how great his average was and thinking he was going to lead the league. and then that he'd still probably be top five. and then that it'd be cool if he hit over .300.

Summer of the heat wave. I might have been at that game. Why is McRae wearing long sleeves? Did he always do that?

Google images says no.

This reminds me of a game against the Reds 03 or 04? I got off the school bus at a friend's house and went into his living room and turned the game on. Cubs were down (11-10 I think) in the bottom of the 9th. As soon as we turned it on Sosa homered, and then Alou homered to win it. My friend's mom looked at me like I was a nut job when she saw my reaction.

Edit: 11-10 was the final. http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=240416116

Edit 2: McRae's appearance reminded me of this game, which I recently discussed in KC with McRae and he acted like he didn't remember it. How do you not remember hitting a grand slam at the front end of a back-to-back-to-back? 9 HR total in this game...

Wasn't that in the same series in April of 04 when Dusty went absolutely nuts and got ejected?

Do you mean the game in like April of 04 when Dusty went absolutely nuts?

Yes.

I think I was actually wrong because I'm pretty sure they lost that game now that I think about it.

I'm all confused now... was it Wood that got ejected in a loss?

I remember Dusty going insane and flailing around vividly.

I know it was CB Bucknor who squeezed Wood.

Oh, I didn't realize you meant ejected. I just saw the April 04 and assumed you remembered something about the game I had not seen.

I believe it was the same series in early '04. Think the Cubs were up in the 9th inning and Dusty let Wood pitch the 9th, promptly gave up the lead after questionable calls, and then boom-goes Dusty and Wood.

The day before. Eric Cooper.
