i think it was intentional and definitely should be a suspension, but i don't think he was really "going after" anybody. i think his hand was initially going up for the puck, and then he got caught up in the moment and threw out the forearm.

to be fair, keith's elbow was way worse

Yes, but don't forget, Keith was retaliating for a shitty hit Sedin put on his head.

@ChrisKuc: Comcast SportsNet delivered highest #Blackhawks regular season rating ever last night--a 7.41 household rating--for game vs. Canucks.

Bandwagon getting crowded.

Are the Hawks getting any attention on the sports talk stations up there yet?

sounds like Hansen got 1 game. Whatever.

Yeah that's bull [expletive], but whatever. We'll get our revenge again on these idiots.

However, the ultimate revenge will be Burrows, Kesler and the sisters going through their lame careers without a cup.

"While it might be true that Hansen initially reaches up to play the puck in the air, he changes the position of his arm and delivers a sharp, careless forearm to the back of Hossa's head," NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said in a video explaining his decision.

"Although it's true that both players initially had their hands open as the puck approaches, Hossa maintains an open palm throughout. Hansen, on the other hand, has closed his hand and has a closed fist. He also does not extend his arm until after Hossa has made contact with the puck.

"While all of this may occur at a split second, we feel that the carelessness and force of which the blow was delivered elevate the incident to the level of supplemental discipline."

I imagine the use of "careless" means they weren't prepared to say "intentional."

I understand that, though I disagree with it.

Hoss and Seabrook are on the ice for practice.

:stickman:

EDIT: Crow is on the ice also, but Emery is not. I don't know if they ever just give a goalie a day off, but if so, he's earned it. If Crawford isn't back in the lineup by this weekend, Karlsson will probably get one of those back-to-back starts.

Apparently Hossa's dad said that Hossa had a concussion from the hit. Not shocking.

Or maybe not. If you translate just the first sentence, Nemá otras mozgu, it comes out as: Does not have a concussion.

Although Emery is starting tomorrow, Crawford has been cleared to play. He won't say whether it was a concussion or not.

More on Hossa:

“He surprised me with a punch from behind,” said Hossa. “I was shaky for a few minutes right after, that’s why I didn’t return.”

Hossa’s speedy return to practice has one Vancouver media member calling the whole episode a “joke.”

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault wasn’t a fan of the suspension either. “When I saw the NHL video explanation, I had a chuckle,” he said.

Yup, Hossa milked an injury by laying on the ice and then purposely didn't return to a relatively close game all so that a Canucks 3rd line wing player could get a suspension.

A cunning and subtle plan.

So apparently the guy writing for the Vancouver Sun doesn't understand the difference between being a willing participant in fisticuffs on the ice and being elbowed in the head from behind. Probably explains a lot of their point of view.

The Vancouver Sun quote is interesting, actually. By the time he's done ranting it seems like he comes to the conclusion that he agrees with the 1 game suspension........but still doesn't like it.

Buh?

yea, hoss said he doesn't think it was a concussion. the team wouldn't have let him practice 2 days later if they thought he did either.
