What did Urlacher ever whine about? The Gale Sayers thing?

He was a mouthpiece for Loviespeak about running the football and controlling the game with defense but I never considered him a complainer. Far from it.

Urlacher was as loyal to his coach as any player in the game and his teammates practically worshipped him. He also happened to be really good and his career took a nosedive because of injury.

But he knocked up a stripper and that cannot be permitted.

Yeah. It was him knocking up a stripper and not his assholish behavior after.

Also, most football players are loyal to their coaches and what not. It's part of the meatball code of the game. That shouldn't be lauded. That's whatever. He wasn't particularly loyal to a couple QBs over the years either.

If he was so loyal, he would have looked at the cap situation and realized that it wasn't "lack of respect" driving that offer; it was a limited budget.

Guess I'm missing something. None of that seems like a big deal to me.

Yes, I'm sure that custody battle was all Brian being a jerk and probably not at all a stripper mom acting like a stripper mom.

Not according to his douchebag text messages.

I'm not like "[expletive] off," but given how it's clearly the end of his career I really can't muster much disappointment or anything along those lines.

As in, he won't even get a contract for next year?

No, as in "he's not very good or possibly even useful." If he can get a deal, great, but I don't expect him to last more than another season and maybe part of a second.

I think he could be quite useful still. I think $2m is the exact right price and allows you to not do something stupid like draft a linebacker in the first round.

I would have been fine with him back at $2 million despite my reservations about his ability at this point. He wasn't and now he's gone. Oh well. Like I said, I don't dislike the guy, but I'm not really bothered by it given how old he is.

It's not I suppose. I just don't care for the guy and couldn't care less that he's no longer a Bear.

What does being a single parent have to do with it? What am I missing?

I don't recall Urlacher whining in public when he was leading the best defense in the league and his team couldn't put an offense out there that could score at all. I don't remember him complaining about not getting paid enough during his 13 years. Did I miss it? I'll admit that I don't follow the NFL as closely as some other sports but I'm shocked at how so many fans, including here, are basically like "meh, [expletive] off brian."

Didn't he make like $80m in his time with the Bears? Not counting all the chances to suck off the advertising teat in a football insane major market?

Eh. I may be coming off pretty meatball, but I couldn't care less about him leaving.

It sounds like you care quite a bit.

I don't know what he made. My point was he wasn't in public contract disputes and holding out all the time. I guess I don't see what point you were making with ARam being a good soldier. Seemed like you were setting up a juxtaposition and I don't see one on that point.

When Sayers ripped Cutler publicly Urlacher unloaded on him (Sayers). Other than that, not a hell of a lot to be particularly loyal to at the QB position over his career. He seemed to back Orton OK.

Yeah, I'm in N&G's camp. Don't think he's worth more than, max, $3 so I'm not too cut up about this.

If we're going to judge athletes based on their personal lives, we're not going to like any of them.

Yeah, I liked what the guy presented in terms of his feelings towards his teammates and coaches and I loved how he couldn't stand the media (which Aramis seemed to awesomely share). I wish he could have ended his career here, but given the overall timeline of his career and I can't really bring myself to be too bummed out by this. Edited by Sammy Sofa

Because I had a strong opinion?

Come on man, you know how it works: everyone else posting on a message board = freaking out. jersey calling every opinion he disagrees with dumb or idiotic or stupid is just totally calm and rational.

Might be bc you sound pretty pissed at him, as if he offended you personally, and there doesn't seem to be a ton of rational support for your strong feelings.

Oooooh yeah. I must not be fully awake yet. Not sure how I forgot.

The only personal offense I take is that his behavior during his custody thing or whatever it was was kind of embarrassing, as a single father.

Dating both Paris Hilton and Jenny McCarthy aren't exactly highwater marks.

Neither of those are dream girls to me. But we're going to knock an athlete for nailing what many would consider fairly hot blondes? Ok. NFL player has sex with playboy bunny and rich blonde girl most famous for making a sex tape. That makes him an idiot?

Seems like we're hitting the bottom of this particular barrel now.

Where did I say he was an idiot? Christ; nobody is saying you can't be an Urlacher fan just by pointing out some of the funnier [expletive] he's been involved with.

Others suggested he was an idiot and your post seemed to support that by pointing out (bad? dumb?) girls he dated. I don't really know what point you were making.

I was really just interested in soccer's response since he seemed pretty worked about it.

Sayers was probably the big one.

This wasn't direct from Brian to the media, so maybe he shouldn't be held accountable for this one:

Vikings (and former Chicago Bears) wide receiver Bobby Wade took to the airwaves this morning and made some waves.

“Jay Cutleris a good player,” Wade said. “Obviously, it’s a much different environment from going from Denver to play in Chicago. Chicago is a tough club to play for. What is so funny, I actually saw Brian Urlacher this past weekend in Las Vegas and we had a long conversation.

“I don’t want to get him in trouble, but it wasn’t what [the Bears] expected. Pretty much [urlacher] said Jay Cutler was a [expletive] for the most part.”

There was some quotes and drama back when he wanted more money in like 2008. And he's also been pretty vocal about his disappointment when some coaches have left/been fired.

Overall, it's not much...just seems like has a quick temper and doesn't always react diplomatically in the media...but he's a meatball LB...that's really not all that crazy.

My point is that he's made some hilarious decisions and he's a public figure and I'm pointing it out because they amuse me; y'know, like people do on this site about pro athletes all the time.
