I'm not buying that Lovie is safe if they miss the playoffs. I'm not buying that Lovie gets to try with another OC, even if it's Bates. If they miss the playoffs, that'll be two collapses in a row. It'll be time for Emery to bring in his own choice.

I agree - he definitely shouldn't get another OC. How many times is he going to put the blame elsewhere?

I Lovie makes it to the NFC Championship game, I let him finish out his contract. If he doesn't, here is my dream scenario.

1. Get Chip Kelley and keep Marinelli as DC.

2. Sign Jake Long if the Dolphins let him go.

3. Get a TE in the first round and a RT in the second.

4. Let Urlacher walk and turn McClellin into a middle linebacker.

Any chance this can happen?

I just don't think Chip Kelly will be a successful NFL coach. Tom Clements, the Green Bay OC, is my choice.

McClellin doesn't have the ability to play MLB. Maybe OLB in the 4-3 but there's just too much coverage responsibility for an MLB which I don't see him being able to do.

1. I like Chip Kelly, but the more I think about it... he's a bad fit with the Bears. I'm on board with Clements as well.

2. Long would be nice, but LT will be expensive on the FA market and I think Bears at the moment are only 13 mil under the cap for next year (don't quote me on that, just remember seeing that number somewhere). If they got Long and resign Melton, how much will be left?

3. I am not a fan of drafting TE in the 1st. Someone could talk me into it, but it'll be like the Shea pick for me. Maybe it's because I haven't really paid attention to Eifert all that much. Is Eifert better than Fleener? Better than Olsen in 2007? I'm just hoping that Barkley/Tyler Wilson/Bray/Glennon/etc will still be on the board and a team will be desperate for a QB to trade up and Bears get a great package for that pick.

4. I think if Lovie is gone, Emery will bring a coach will play a 3-4 defense. I know the our DL isn't exactly "suited" for it, but I'm still trying to figure out the McClellin pick and what they're gonna do with him. If that's the case, it could bring several other options in the draft as well.

I mentioned clements a page ago losers. But anyway, if we go 3-4, i could see us holding on to urlacher and shifting briggs to the middle as well. The 3-4 would extend their careers.

I was thinking the same thing. Peppers can play 5 tech and possibly 3-4 OLB on certain plays. The only question I have are where Melton/Paea/Wooten/etc fit in a 3-4?

Money won't be a huge issue this off-season. Peppers and Tillman can/will be restructured. Melton will be re-signed or franchised. Money can be saved by cutting Hester. And Long could be at a discount because of his injury.

I think Melton could play the 3-4 DE... seems athletic enough and strong enough... Paea might be undersized for the nose though and Wootton wouldn't seem to be big enough for the DE either...

Inactives: Urlacher, Conte, Allen, Castonzo, Brandon-OT, Collins, and McCown.

Apparently Harvey Unga was promoted from the practice squad and is the 3rd RB today!

Not sure why Collins was benched vs. a passing team. Think he's been decent.

Castonzo hurts special teams.

Need a quick start in all 3 phases of the game today. Get the ball first, I'd like to see Cutler get off to a good start for a change, possibly even going up top to Marshall or Jeffery early. If playing D first, I'd like to see a 3-and-out or at the very most 1 first down without the field position changing drastically in the Lions favor. Get a good, penalty free return in the right direction. Don't allow a return to jumpstart the Lions.

Sounds like common sense, but get up on the Lions early and they have no reason to try to do anything but get Calvin his yards. Let them hang around early and they become more upset minded as spoilers.

Rodriguez should probably just put his head down there (not that its a big deal) I don't think you can juke out too many DBs as an H-Back in this league
