It's fine. He's nothing special but he's a serviceable reliever and it's a cheap one year deal.

Not a bad signing. According to fangraphs he was worth $2.6MM last year and worth more than $1.3MM all but one year since coming into the league in 2004. I would say that is a pretty good gamble.

The timing of this is very interesting to me. Our 40 man is now at 39. Have to add whoever we're adding by tomorrow. Personally, I think Villanueva, Watkins, and McNutt are locks. Yeah, we can drop Clevenger, Stewart, Coleman, and a Putnam or Gutierrez, maybe Rusin. But hopefully this means Levine wasn't talking out of his ass and we actually DO have a major trade of young players on the horizon.

I could see some sort of Jackson/Vitters/Wood/Dolis/Candelario for Chisenhall/Masterson/Brantley swap. We'd fill 3B, a SP, and CF in one move. Could sign Liriano, a RP or 2 and likely be done. Maybe another young player type swap to help with pitching.

I was thinking in terms of it meaning that they plan on making some additions to help contend now. Otherwise, the MO shift from veteran role players on minor league contracts to veteran role players on major league contracs would be a step in the wrong direction.
