but i get it, it's cool to hate simmons because he talks about bad reality shows

Nope.

It's mainly because he's not a very good writer (about anything) and his actual ability to discuss/analyze sports is tremendously simplistic.

Obviously he has some appeal to his writing since he's one of the most popular sportswriters in America. Doesn't matter if he's a good writer if the stuff he writes is entertaining.

George Bush got elected twice. Popularity quality.

Hardly a lofty accomplishment. Look at who the top sports writers are in Chicago. He is of their ilk.

He's found a lucrative niche. In journalism, in the 21st century. That's a legitimate and significant accomplishment, even if it's based on profiting from idiots.

Also, his career wound up creating the Reality Fantasy League column.

Let's praise Nickelback next.

If you let me buy time machine stock in them 13 years ago, yeah, I'd do that. Those ridiculously awful parody movies have been keeping a lot of people employed in the last decade, too.

Nickleback absolutely deserves praise as a business.

Hey when you talk about other aspects of things besides their actual quality, they might be pretty good! Yay?

You said it was "hardly a lofty accomplishment"

Being at the top of your field, in a competitive field, is a "lofty accomplishment". You can trash the guy on artistic merits, but he's a huge success.

Yes, we're talking about the accomplishment of being one of the most popular sports writers in America, which is a field of garbage, and that popularity is based out of his terrible writing, because most fans of sports writing are meatballs. I don't care how much money or fame he's made off of it; there's a guy somewhere who is the most successful portable toilet emptier, too. Whoopty [expletive] doo. Edited by Sammy Sofa

So is Rush Limbaugh.

Yeah, this is stupid. There's plenty of people who are rich and are annoying. Doesn't even mean they aren't good at their job. Definitely doesn't mean they are stupid. In fact, the opposite is probably true because they are indeed rich and successful. Sometimes people do what they have to do to make money/sell whatever they are selling.

Oh and there's a pretty important football game on tonight. Let's talk about that instead.

In other news, the Bears' game next week may have just gotten a bit easier as Alex Smith left tonight's game with a concussion.

Ugh. I want to legitimately beat these teams.

At least it's just shitty Alex Smith.

Colin Kaepernick's pretty damn good. Wouldn't call it a W just yet.

Nor would I. In fact, I'd be willing to say there's a slight chance this actually makes them better.

Bad weather has to favor the Bears right? Houston is built like a cold/bad weather team, but they don't play in it very much. And the Bears cause TOs which is usually compounded by weather.

Yeah. Regardless of who the QB is for SF, the bigger concern is Cutler against that defense. Five picks last time.
