I'm fine with the Bulls getting the 2,3,6 or 7 seed to presumably avoid Miami until the ECF. Not that I think that the Bulls are going to get that far even with Rose back (I don't think he'll be studly again until next year), but I won't completely discount it either.

TBH though, I'm rather down on the Bulls in general. I think it will take a long time for all the new pieces to mesh, the defense will be quite a bit worse than the previous 2 years, at least initially, and obviously the offense will struggle quite a bit during certain stretches. I'm thinking if Rose can come back by mid-February, given what I said above, I think we're looking at a 44-38 season or something close to that. Vegas has our O/U at 49 wins I believe...seems too good to be true.

I was going to say that it's no sure thing Miami gets the 1 seed this year as they're prone to just coasting for the regular season, but then again I don't see any other East team that's even going to win 50 games, so the Heat are going to win the East by 10 games even by coasting.

I bet you all loathe Nate Robinson after ~12 games.

More than Hinrich? I mean, if it were Robinson vs. Rose, it's another story, but he's not exactly got to hit a very high bar to be the most valuable PG on the roster right now.

I loathe him from his college days.

Don't get why anyone bothers to give a [expletive] about the Bulls when their organization hasn't given a [expletive] about the fans.

The NBA is definitely my second favorite league behind MLB so I'm pretty excited. Rose's injury tempers my excitement a bit but it's good to have basketball back.

The first few games are favorable for the Bulls so they have a good shot to get off to a good start.

They care about their fans..........as long as they are able to be the most profitable team in the NBA by a wide margin.

Thank goodness Mike Brown still coaches the Lakers.

No, he's pretty much right. Profit clearly comes before winning.

I didnt want to believe it but this offseason made it really care.

I mean I get that the luxury tax penalties are getting stiffer next year, and the repeat offender penalties are even worse. But come on, the Bulls are the most profitable team in the game by a decent margin and you are one of 7 teams who has never paid the luxury tax.

The other 6 teams:

Charlotte

Golden State

LA Clippers

New Orleans

Oklahoma City

Washington

Not exactly a bunch of large revenue teams....how about the 5 teams that have spent the most in luxury tax penalties:

Boston ($46 mil)

Dallas ($150 mil)

LA Lakers ($84 mil)

New York ($195 mil)

Portland ($89 mil)

Other than Portland, who somehow spent $51 mil in luxury tax in 02-03 and another $29 mil the next year and only $8 million more over the next 8 seasons, you are talking about the highest revenue teams in the game and teams that compete just about every year. Not saying we need to spend as much money as them, just that they be willing to go over by a couple million when necessary.

If not for the Rose injury, the Bulls and OKC would have been the only teams on that list with championship aspirations, all while avoiding luxury tax.

Why is that a bad thing? I would think that indicates a well-run team, not a bad one.

I'm not saying you're wrong, though. What should they do in terms of paying out luxury tax that makes sense?

I love basketball but I am in no way excited about the Bulls. A long season of mediocracy awaits.

You're not excited about Hinrich's Cinderella MVP run?

When you're Oklahoma City, that means you're a well-run team. But when you're a revenue machine like the Bulls and giving away players like Kyle Korver just to avoid the luxury tax, that indicates cheapness. I always used to defend Reinsdorf/the Bulls on this, but this offseason was a pretty good indicator of some of the organization's true goals.

I think those stats are somewhat rigged. You can't build a championship team by spending your way into the luxury tax. You build the pieces championship team first, and then spend the tax. Case in point. Miami will be into big into the tax.

The Bulls have contended they will not spend big money on a team that is not championship caliber. OK. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. They went after the big 3 a couple seasons ago. All indications are that they went after Dwight Howard. I'm fine with them not blowing their wad on contracts for guys like Eric Gordon, when guys like that aren't going to bring them a championship, especially with Rose in limbo right now.

I don't understand what some of you guys want them to do. There's a salary cap in place. It's not like you can play Steinbrenner and buy championship talent in basketball. Someone name a deal that could've been done to bring a championship to Chicago that wasn't done because of money concerns.

I'll start to agree when Rose is fully back, they have cap room, and don't maneuver. It's just not the right time.

Posted
Wait you cant buy your way to a championship? Well I guess we should wait to see how the season plays out for the Kobe, Gasol, Nash, and Dwight. You are acting like the luxury tax is some legitimate barrier that teams dont cross all of the time, especially the teams that make $50 million in profits every year.
