Oof, Dolphins block the Jets game-winning FG attempt but the Dolphins had taken a timeout to ice the kicker first.

And Folk makes the next attempt, Jets win.

unbelievable how often these idiots try to ice the kicker while he's kicking and screw themselves like that. lol Miami.

I want to say one of the guys on Grantland (Barnwell maybe) wrote an article last year about icing the kicker and I think the FG% was either negligible when comparing calling a TO/not calling a TO when a kicker was attempting a game winning kick or the made FG% was actually higher for kickers who were "iced" and got a TO called before a kick compared to not having a TO called before a kick.

Either way, the study/article showed that calling a TO to "ice" a kicker didn't result in an increase in missed FG's.

I don't really care about icing. It's the "icing so late, the other team gets a free practice kick" that is so hilariously stupid and spectacularly unsuccessful.

The Cardinals are pretty damn good.

I'm watching football with a cousin from Phoenix and she just told me "I've got a friend who's dating one of Arizona's quarterbacks and they keep breaking up because he's always cheating on her. And it's Skelton, he's not even that good!"

The refs are wrecking this Pitt-Oak game, and the players are again acting like idiots because they can get away with it.

Mike Wallace picked a fight with Richard Seymour and started slap fighting with at least two guys. And Seymour gets the only penalty for shoving him away. Wallace should have been ejected.

So, the refs (and game officials) in the 49ers / Vikings game decided that giving Harbaugh one additional challenge wasn't enough. So they gave him 2 additional challenges.

And you just know Harbaugh's on the sidelines thinking, if they're stupid enough to give me one challenge I shouldn't have, why they hell not? Throw the flag again, see what happens. AND THEY GIVE IT TO HIM.

In addition to teams screwing themselves by icing the kicker... I feel like there have been enough "batted hail mary's into someones hands for a touchdown" that maybe people should stop going crazy every time a defender just tries to intercept it. I hate that people like to act like it is crazy if a defender doesn't just bat it down... because usually that means they bat it forward somewhat horizontally and another player is there to catch it. In fact, I think there is usually an offensive player that purposely waits behind the mass of people for that exact outcome.

Not something I devote a lot of thought to :). But really, there's always that slim chance the ball deflects the wrong way and it works out for the offense. It's not a 100% sure thing for the defense, that's why teams do it. Defenders still need to play it right. I don't really care how they get it done -- but there's no magic to it. As a defender, they still need to play good football, get in good position, and play the ball correctly. Bat it down, intercept it, however it happens, the defense still needs to "win" the play.

Oh hey, look, the refs have lost control of a game

People haven't changed the channel yet, so stop caring about quality.

Well that was a hell of an unexpected win for the Vikings. They controlled that game from the first play and were the better team all day. Ponder has some great numbers so far but today was his best game considering that defense and without much going in the run game.

I know you're being sarcastic but that's clearly the NFL's stance in negotiations here. The league is still making their money so they seem to think they can take a hardline with the refs.

I know, I'm just pissy about it because I don't agree with their stance.

I'm not sure if I'm more surprised the Raiders actually won or that they only committed three penalties.

Man. I just watched a breakdown of the NO/KC game. It's not that I didn't realize they would be worse, but to let that happen on their home turf, against KC.....just incredible.

At this point is gonna take a clearly botched call that directly costs a team a victory for the outcry to be loud enough to get back to the negotiating table.

If the NFL thinks the refs are panicking because the NFL is moving on without them, they are probably wrong. The amount of hilariously bad calls and decisions are piling up and it's getting more and more obvious that these refs are not going to get markedly better as the season goes on. In fact they seem to be getting worse.

Anyways, unless the aforementioned scenario occurs, I could see this lasting the entire season.

Holy crap, what are the refs doing in this Ravens/Pats game? It's like the refs are trying to pick on the home team to prove they aren't influenced by the home crowd.
