Game 2 - BEARS @ Green Bay Packers - 7:20 PM Thurs

Posted
This was one of the worst offensive lines in football last year, and they did little to improve it in terms of player/personal, should it shouldn't be shocking that once again, they are terrible this year. Kicking Martz to the curb wasn't going to be the magic fix. Why in the hell did they give Garza an extension btw? He's almost as bad as Webb. Raji and Worthy were abusing him and Spencer last night.

He needs to be able to step up at the very least. Wtf happened to the bootlegs and moving pockets that Tice was supposed to implement?

The Dline looked really strong. That's a big plus and I have no doubt the Bears are a playoff team.

They can't beat Green Bay in Lambeau though. Everyone else manages to pass all over on GB, even Alex Smith, but the Bears can't. This is obviously a problem. They're still an OL away from being a Super Bowl team, big surprise. Even when Jay got protection his WR's were still playing their disappearing act. They just have little to no chance on that field this year.

This will be a fun year to watch, no doubt. But the Bears aren't getting past GB or the 49ers.

you do have to question Cutler as a QB that shows little poise in big games.

you do

Ok, what big games has he played great in? Hit stats are [expletive] against our biggest rival and threat to making the playoffs and hits stats are [expletive] in prime time games. I'll give I'm the Seattle playoff game, but god that team was awful

After 3 years of the same old [expletive], I'd have zero poise as well. The bears are woefully slow at getting jake what he needs. I wouldnt be surprised if he goes elsewhere at the end of if contract

Garza was putrid for most of last year but the issues at tackle got most of the negative publicity.

Waking up with more clarity

OK...

you do have to question Cutler as a QB that shows little poise in big games. Especially when it's a low scoring struggle. This game was no different to me then the NFC title game in terms of negativity surrounding Jay.

I actually blame the offensive line meltdown from last night on the horrible play calling throughout the entire game. How they didn't make adjustments early is beyond me.

Run, run, drop back to pass on 3rd and 7. Run, run, pass. Run, run, pass. I remember one series where they got 8 yards on first down, and it was a perfect opportunity to break the stupid pattern and throw the ball. They ran it and got tackled for a loss.

You have an all star receiver and he's targeted one time in the entire first half? Make adjustments to get him the ball, I don't care if he's being triple teamed. Some short side line routes can help spread the field more, as well. There is no way you can convince me that the Packers could blanket EVERY receiver to the point short dump passes up the middle weren't even possible.

Really disappointed that the coaching staff thought they could just run the ball down their throats to win this game. The offensive line isn't good, but they aren't as bad as they looked last night. It's the play calling that rolled the red carpet out for Clay Matthews.

And it speaks loudly that the Packer troll fans posting in this Bears thread don't have a single Packer fan to watch the game with or a Packers message board where they can say whatever the hell they want as they celebrate victory, so instead they hang out here where they know they aren't welcome. Basically begging to be banned, IMO.

Webb will be a pro bowler.

I still want to see the game at Soldier Field later. As bad as this was, there were a few plays that could have changed how we're thinking about it.

The defense overall did a fine job.

We haven't been able to protect the QB since I can remember. Yet last year we were able to scheme it enough to at least give Cutler some time to throw. Tice needs to do that again. It's never going to be good without new personnel, but at a minimum they need to get Webb help regularly. I'm surprised they thought they could leave him out there alone. They should know better.

I'm pretty concerned about Forte now -- high ankle sprain. Anyone know how long he will be out?

Tice was awful. You have to give Marshall the ball, even for simply 3-4 yard gains, early. But the line is that bad. The best lineman on the team isn't playing. They make stupid mistakes every time they even pretend to threaten to move the ball.

I think the average timetable for that is 4-6 weeks. I also think having Rodriguez or Davis on Webb's side constantly might be necessary. Leaving him on an island can never be the answer.

As if the Bears don’t suddenly have enough problems, they now have to fret about when and if the players will rise up against their petulant, James Dean-wannabe quarterback, Jay Cutler.

Last night’s sideline incident with left tackle J’Marcus Webb, which featured Cutler swearing at and bumping the much bigger Webb, has created concerns within the organization that the players could eventually turn on Cutler, for good. That’s what a source with direct knowledge of the situation tells PFT.

It’s not the first time a quarterback has had relationship issues in the locker room. We’ve heard for years that Ben Roethlisberger had been (and still may be) persona non grata in Pittsburgh. But the Bears are getting closer to the breaking point with Cutler, and the worry in the organization is that if it keeps up, something could go down.

.

Looking at the play by play, this didn't really start happening until the second half. The Bears had 9 first down plays in the first half. 6 of them they dropped back to pass, while 3 of them were run plays. The 3 run plays were all on the same drive in the second quarter that was derailed by the Carimi unnecessary roughness penalty. The 6 pass plays resulted in 3 incompletions, 2 sacks, and a defensive pass interference penalty.

Now in the first 2 drives of the 2nd half, they did try to run it quite a bit before abandoning it late. But I don't see the overall run heavy emphasis in the playcalling. In fact, even disregarding the sacks, they gained 4.1 yards a carry on the ground while only gaining 4.6 Y/A through the air. It's possible they should have run it more than they did.

Yeah, just posted that in the other thread. That's BS. They brought in Marshall to please Cutler, and now after a bad game the team is gonna turn on Cutler to defend freaking J'Marcus Webb? Come on.

Tice at the press conference just said he forgot this was the regular season and forgot to gameplan for Matthews. Wow, great OC!

Are we sure he wasn't being a smartass to the reporter? I mean, how could he forget it's the regular season? Being that it's Week 2... and we never play the Packers in the pre-season. All the players know who Clay Matthews... wouldn't someone mention it?

I've not seen that quote anywhere but here. No tweets about it or anything.
