I've always been a fan of Escobar the player (probably like him more than his stats should lead me to) and I think as a player he'd be a good option to bring in for 3B. But he is a complete doucher. I don't think they'd bring him in.

There's really not much of a fit for Escobar on a team that already has Castro and Barney on the roster. He'd be a pretty nice backfill at 2B if they sold high on Barney though, especially if he's worn out his welcome and wouldn't require much talent going the other way.

FWIW...

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/21/report-tim-lincecum-will-be-on-the-block-this-offseason/

Tim Lincecum posted a rough 5.18 ERA in 186 innings this season and is owed $22 million in 2013. So the Giants may do something that would have been considered unthinkable seven months ago. Here’s Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe:
Tim Lincecum, RHP, Giants — He will be available in trade, and it will be interesting to see who bites on the two-time Cy Young winner. The Giants insist his problems this season were strictly mechanical, but opposing teams wonder why his usual 96-mile-per-hour fastball was around 92 most of the season.

The Giants would surely have to eat more than half of Lincecum’s remaining salary to get a trade done, but that might be worth it if they are convinced that he won’t bounce back. The 28-year-old was shelled for four earned runs on six hits and three walks in his NLCS Game 4 start against the Cardinals on Thursday night. Lincecum is scheduled to become a free agent for the first time in his career after the 2013 season.

Maybe it's time to try talking Soriano into thinking SF isn't so bad after all. A trade centered around Lincecum and Soriano might be interesting after making sure Lincecum is healthy.

To be fair, he is only signed for one more year, and even if they ate half the salary... $11 million on Lincecum is a pretty decent gamble for a team with enough wiggle room in their salary and the prospects to get him if the team is trying to make a push for it next year.

Pot brownies + Chicago style pizza will have him looking like CC Sabathia in no time.

Big Time Timmy Jim probably could stand to gain some weight anyways

His traditional fare? Three Double-Doubles. Two fries. A chocolate-strawberry shake. Ketchup please, but hold the lettuce and tomatoes.

"I'm not a big vegetable guy,'' he says.

Let's see, three burgers at 590 calories. Two fries at 395 calories. A shake at 590 calories. The grand total: 3,150 calories.

Toronto is looking to trade Escobar, would he be worth shedding a mid level prospect for? I understand he is a first class dbag but could be a 3B or 2B option. He is capable of bouncing back and putting up a .290/.360/.400 up.

I'd look into Ryan Roberts who may be non-tendered by the Rays rather than Escobar. Walks a ton, pretty decent defensively, and under control for two more years. Remember, Theo has instituted "the cubs way"...no more Milton Bradleys, regardless of upside. Also, I'd be interested in Niemann if he's available.

Not sure if any ones mentioned him, but Tim Stauffer would be a really nice pick up. Great gamble because when he's healthy he's very good and a great sinker baller.

I'm interested in Zach Britton for the same reason. Maybe Jackson could wet the Orioles' whistle and settle into a corner outfield spot.

It would behoove the FO to find sinker ballers to take advantage of the best defensive second baseman in baseball and one of the rangiest shortstops.

And a smart manager who positions his defense appropriately

From MLBTR:

The majority of the execs see Cabrera winding up with a one-year deal in the $2-$5MM range to audition himself. One exec could see him getting $10-$12MM while another said he could possibly get one year at $8-10MM

How about signing Cabrera for a club-friendly one year deal to play CF and let Jackson start in AAA.

I'm perfectly fine with going after Melky, even at 12 mill for a year. Especially if we deal Soriano. That said, the makeup issues COULD keep the FO from even considering him. But for a rehab project that you're likely dealing at the deadline, I doubt there is a better option out there.

I don't think we'd need to trade Soriano to bring in Melky, we need a RF/CF. If we trade Soriano then we need LF + a RF/CF.

While we're on the subject of medium risk/huge reward acquisitions, would anyone be terribly opposed to Jason Bay, assuming that the Mets were willing to move as a salary dump? He's owed $17 MM for 2013 with a vesting option for 2014. If the Mets would trade him for 50-60% salary relief and a some combination of fringe prospects/big league scraps, would he be worth the risk? Even if he puts up another sub .600 OPS, the 8-10 MM isn't going to hurt, and the market isn't exactly loaded with sensible options for a team in our situation.

Would Baez, Vizcaino, and Vogelbach be enough for the DBacks to seriously consider trading Upton? It's one TJ surgery away from 2 top 50's and one other top 120ish prospect.

Ken Rosenthal seems to think he's still likely to be traded after the Chris Young deal.

I would not want the Cubs to make that trade.

Yeah, I should clarify what I said. The reason I even mentioned Soriano in this, is if he's dealt, we truly need a cleanup hitter. But I'd be in favor of Melky, if we keep Soriano too. Money's not an issue, we certainly shouldn't HAVE to move Soriano, in order to sign Cabrera.

With a team lacking in talent, I feel like you should just be looking to add any potential long-term assets unless there is a clear positional block. With the OF, I'm not going to be concerned with who is current on the roster before making a move since both are here short-term and regression candidates.

I don't think the Diamondback would want to make that trade, either.
