can we talk about ssr not knowing who rubby is and how he's gone full meatball in the last 3 months?

Can we talk about a B prospect being called a TOR arm?

Sorry man, you should read a bit or watch the guy. You're just really wrong here. 100 MPH, damn good changeup. If he commands his slider even somewhat, he's got ace potential. And it's not even disputable honestly. He has one of the absolute best arms in baseball. The potential is definitely there to be TOR.

He's been busy making the best twitter account ever, cut him some slack man.

Isn't that imb! Or are you referring to another twitter account?

My fault, thought it was SSR.

The original post definitely read that Rubby, who has thrown 12 IP this year, was going to slot in for Beckett immediately as a rotation stalwart. That is kinda sorta definitely not right.

And IMB! made the twitter account, I don't even know if SSR even commented on it.

No, I said he can slot into his spot, but needs to get his velo back and innings up. Not really sure why you'd think that meant immediately whatsoever. Maybe I should have worded that a bit differently but it's not close to even being the first time I've mentioned him and figure most know he's coming off TJS and won't be doing much this year. At any rate, that's not what SSR is talking about, he's disputing the talent. And he's just wrong.

ESPN's write up put his ceiling as a #3 starter.

no it didn't, it said he has the ability to replace beckett as a TOR guy down the road when his stuff comes back.

Actually the most telling thing is you not actually contributing anything to the discussion yet disagreeing anyway. It tells me you don't disagree, you just feel like trolling.

You want a contribution? jumbo is right, and only terrible posters are agreeing with him.

Well we've gone to a silly place of semantics now, but I certainly read this:

Rubby has the ability to slide into Beckett's spot and be a TOR guy, may take a bit of time to get his stuff back and innings up after TJS though.

As implying that Rubby and Beckett are similar, and that Rubby's TJS rehab is the only thing in the way of him being a TOR(or at least Beckett's equal) as if it's an inevitability. That doesn't seem to be what davell meant, but it's clear that I'm not the only one who read it similarly, and it's a pretty odd sticking point if you're going to throw out stuff like "SSR has gone full meatball".

Back to the actual point being made, I think there's a chasm between reasonable expectations for Rubby v. expectations for Beckett, especially when you consider that Beckett only was under contract for two seasons.

At any rate, the guys I've heard speak glowingly on Rubby are Law and KG, at different points and a bunch of guys at fangraphs. FWIW, if he were rookie eligibke midseason last year, Law would have had him in his top 25 and said he has ace stuff. Mike Newman, from ScoutingtheSally says he's got the best FB he has ever seen live. If his slider can stick as an average pitch, I really see him as a 1 or a 2. The change is a plus pitch and the FB may be plus, plus. Endurance could be an issue, due to his size, but I really, really like him. Control needs a bit of work too. I really wanted him in a Dempster or Garza deal badly.

This trade easily slots in as the #2 August trade in MLB history, just behind Mark Clark, Lance Johnson and Manny Alexander for Turke Wendell, Mel Rojas and Brian McRae

John Sickels also described him as a potential mid-rotation starter.

I think Rubby has ace potential if his slider can improve. Just don't think he'll get there.

Holy crap, how can you claim you're talking about Beckett in the bolded sentence?

Over editing, something ended up left out. I don't need to be an expert at analyzing players to know that a move to the Dodger Stadium from Fenway isn't going to do a hitter any favors. The only possible benefit would be getting a few extra games at Coors and Chase which is canceled out by more games at both PetCo and AT&T, but none of that is as important as going from playing half the time at one of the top 5 hitters parks to one of the 5-10 most pitcher friendly.

You do realize that Adrian Gonzalez played and raked for many many years in Petco Park, correct?

This is true. On the other hand he's shown some pretty steady signs of declining power in the last 3 years, which may lead one to believe he's not the same guy he was when he was playing in PetCo.

He's supposedly had some "shoulder fatigue" the last few seasons. Age 30 seems like a little early to start seeing physical decline in power, but maybe it should also be kept in mind that he was not really regarded as a plus power guy when he was coming up. Maybe his body type and frame doesn't have the resiliency to compensate or easily adapt to aging or nagging injury.

They're still supposedly looking for another SP.

I just read that too and apparently they are still willing to take on a large salary. Crazy...

MLBTR threw Buehrle's name out today. If Loria gets out of that contract I'll be pissed.

if they really are going to have that much to spend, they should be more patient. they didn't really need to take on crawford and beckett to get a gonzalez type value. if you're patient you'll eventually get somebody as good as gonzalez at the same price. as a cubs fan, i'm glad theyre already getting into bad contracts like crawford and ethier. let them be good now.

They're going to need attractive trading chips to swing all these hypothetical trades. They've depleted their farm system of arms in a pretty short order since new ownership took over.

If the Dodgers actually get a TV deal in the 4-5 billion range, this truly is going to get ridiculous.

Good thing they're not in our division.

Not if every team is flush with money like they appear to be.
