Over and under on Jackson K's if he starts.

I'm feeling a good game from him with 1 K. just a feeling.

Jackson needs a lot of time to work on his issues, no point in overanalyzing each game at a time.

I just want Anthony and Starlin to get out of this awful stretch. They are far more important than Jackson.

I hope the meaningful guys do well (Castro, Rizzo, Vitters, Jackson, Shark, Cabrera) but we are only 3 games from the #2 pick and 10 from #1 a loss isn't the worst thing if those guys aren't playing bad.

It's a game thread. You analyze one game at a time.

Fair enough.

Similarly to what they do in spring training and minor league rehab assignment, is it possible that the reason for Castro's struggles at the plate is that theyre having him focus more so on pitch recognition and plate dicipline than hitting itself? BA & SLG have never been a problem for him. OBP has been.

I mentioned this about Jackson yesterday, but it could go for all of the young players being counted on long term. With the playoff hopes dead and rotting, they could be using this as extended-extended spring training to work on things, but pitchers are actually trying to get them out instead of work on their own stuff.

Well with Jax likely to PH tonight, that about seals up his line.

0-1 1K

I'd be surprised if he sees game time, unless it's an emergency.

Yeah, like fanning the flames of a fire or something.

The offense has been atrocious. The team's hitting a collective .170 during the losing streak and scoring 2.29 runs a game. Casto's 2 for 28 (.071) and Rizzo is 4 for 28 (.143). Ugh.

How many more starts do you think they'll give Samardzija before shutting him down? 4? 5?

As for whom TOR might be scouting on Cubs, with Jose Bautista going in for 2nd MRI on wrist, Alfonso Soriano is among the fair guesses.

Blue Jays scout (former Cubs GM). RT @PWSullivan Ed Lynch here again scouting Cubs.

I know realistically it's just one at bat, but if Castro doesn't get on his next at bat, it's going to be really, really depressing to see his OBP fall under .300

This is easily the most brutal stretch of adversity this season. Not only are the Cubs going to get swept by the Padres, everyone who is supposed to be part of the future has been terrible.

The Jays are sub .500, in last place for their division and 5.5 back in the WC. While that's not an unsurmountable defecit, I can't imagine them doing any buying at this point. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they were watching Vitters, Jackson, or Barney for an offseason trade for a pitching prospect(s).
