And win the World Series.

I have to say, this is probably my favorite bad Cubs team I've watched in my life.

Agreed.

This team doesn't seem as miserable as most bad teams are.

Kaplan just called Smoltz "the greatest closer of the modern era."

Did someone go back in time and erase Mariano Rivera from existence?

No kidding; I know the guy is a meatball, but come on.

Late on this, but that 8th inning was phenomenal. Barney is the man.

I'm even later on this, but Barney essentially saved the game there. Had he not made those 2 plays, and then the Bourn IF single, things could have gotten very ugly in a hurry. Next thing you know, we'd be looking at either bases loaded or 1st and 3rd with a run in an no outs with Prado, Heyward, and Chipper coming up and those insufferable tomahawk chops becoming deafening.

Someone should put him in a room with Bruce Levine, who almost caused me to yell at my radio in the office this morning.

He said that A.J. Pierzynski should have made the allstar team over Mauer. When someone mentioned that Mauer has a higher OBP and OPS, Levine responded something to the effect of, "I don't care about those numbers. All that matters is run production."

I can't believe he gets paid to spew that information.

FWIW I think he said 'possibly'. Still stupid but he's up there for sure.

It's not even a debate.

Apparently Sveum was giving Castro a talking to for that late throw earlier in the game when Rizzo stepped in and (rightfully) took the blame. Sveum later had to apologize to Starlin. It worries me slightly that Sveum is so quick to blame Castro for this, but maybe it was just an honest mistake.

After the inning, manager Dale Sveum went directly over to Castro to have a word with him. It was then that Rizzo stepped in.

“Rizzo came to his rescue right away,” Sveum said. “Rizzo told him to give him time to get to the bag. He got caught probably trying to get too much ground and told somebody to take their time when they got a ball deep in the hole. It was one of those things that I apologized to Castro after.”

On the play, Rizzo was shifted toward second base and was late getting to the bag.

Well, [expletive], as if I needed another reason to like Rizzo. I know it's venturing into intangibles territory, but I'd love to see a guy like that become the leader of the team for a long, long time.

I am completely fine with making Rizzo a player-manager right now and telling Sveum to [expletive] off after reading that. Seriously he's the guy who calls the shifts or at the very least is aware of the shift that was on, he had to see Rizzo was late and the fact he tried to blame it on Starlin is B.S.

[expletive] yeah, a face for the organization that can actually play baseball.
