As they are both 22 years of age, I'm hoping that Castro will be throwing across the diamond to Rizzo for about the next 10 years or so.

Well, [expletive], as if I needed another reason to like Rizzo. I know it's venturing into intangibles territory, but I'd love to see a guy like that become the leader of the team for a long, long time.

I would think being a cancer survivor has something to do with this. He's probably got a bit more perspective on life than your average 22 year old. I'm really happy to a) see a guy like this succeed and b) have him be on the team I support.

Apparently Sveum was giving Castro a talking to for that late throw earlier in the game when Rizzo stepped in and (rightfully) took the blame. Sveum later had to apologize to Starlin. It worries me slightly that Sveum is so quick to blame Castro for this, but maybe it was just an honest mistake.

After the inning, manager Dale Sveum went directly over to Castro to have a word with him. It was then that Rizzo stepped in.

“Rizzo came to his rescue right away,” Sveum said. “Rizzo told him to give him time to get to the bag. He got caught probably trying to get too much ground and told somebody to take their time when they got a ball deep in the hole. It was one of those things that I apologized to Castro after.”

On the play, Rizzo was shifted toward second base and was late getting to the bag.

we may be entering "if it seems to good to be true" territory with rizzo here. but i sure hope not.

That's it. I'm changing my son's name to rizzo.
