Vogelbach with double #5.

#6 actually, unless milb.com gave him an extra one last week

I can only assume that most of these would be standing triples or in the parkers for an average runner. Tony Campana could likely round the bases 3 times.

How much stock should be put into some of these DSL pitchers with beautiful K rates? It seems we have a few of them.

Speaking of which, I noticed that Jose Paulino hasn't pitched since June 23rd. Is he hurt or something? Obviously, there really isn't much news out of there aside from box scores, but he was really tearing it up and recently turned 17.

I hate that everyone assumes Voglebach is some over wieght porker that can barely run to first. he lost a good bit of wieght in the spring and most reports are that he's an average runner. He stole some bases in the instructional league. He's quite capable on the base paths give the kid a break.

Is Trey Martin a legit prospect? He's been tearing it up. Also, who is Jacob Rogers? he had a monster day yesterday.

Yes, Martin is a legit prospect. Got overslot money last year, good athlete who did well in extended spring training.

Rogers was the Cubs 40th rounder this year, a senior from Mt Olive. Obviously not much of a prospect.

Javier Baez, shortstop for the single-A Peoria Chiefs, continues to struggle to get acclimated to professional baseball. His hitting plight has been peppered with moments of brilliance but his 2-for-18 (.111) week suggests otherwise. He tallied two runs and no walks on the week with an on base percentage of .090. His approach at the plate seems undisciplined and until he strategizes his approach his numbers will continue to plummet.

Guess who wrote this...

If his name was Josh Johnson, TheKapman would already be touting him to replace Castro at SS immediately.

Yea. I was wondering how he could write anything positive about Junior Lake, but then I realized the name probably had him fooled..

Posting a 155 OPS+ as a 19-year old in the MWL is struggling now? [expletive] off @thekapman.

Other moments of brilliance the horrible @thekapman article:

Tennessee Smokies pitcher Eric Jokisch came into Sunday's game 3-0 and had every intention standing pat. He was scheduled to rest but when Smokies starter Trey McNutt was pulled after two innings of work, skipper Buddy Bailey turned to Jokisch for help. 5.2 innings, 10 runs and nine hits later, Jokisch was the one pleading for help. He appeared uncomfortable and rattled the entire time he was on the mound. I will give him the benefit of the doubt due to the unlikely circumstances but this was not the Eric Jokisch we have gotten used to watching this year. It will be interesting to see how he responds to his first loss in his next start.

Eric Jokisch came into Sunday's game on Monday. McNutt was pulled after 2 innings because the game was suspended due to rain. Jokisch was the scheduled Monday starter, which is when he pitched. No research.

Daytona Cubs first baseman Greg Rohan is exceeding everyone's expectations this season. He has cooled off in the last few weeks but Wednesday was a turning point and one of those games you do not forget. He went 5-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. This explosion puts him at 63 RBIs on the season, 12 more than anyone else in the entire Florida State League.

Is a 26-year old really exceeding expectations with an .847 OPS in high-A? I guess he's cool cuz he's white.

But Kaplan has been watching him pitch in person all year so he probably knows what he's talking about.

I'll bet a romantic weekend at hccf's ranch that vogelbach is does not have average speed for a professional baseball player.

This account is a year and a half old, but I could only assume - given the reports about his weight loss - that he's as fast if not faster as when this was written.

When I saw him run a 60 yard dash, I was shocked. He has average speed, plus for his size, and is a better athlete than you would expect.

The Kapman did a "Down on the Farm" segment last Sunday before Cubs pregame on WGN radio...not sure if thats a weekly thing or not, but I would bet he reads this article verbatim if he does that segment again this Sunday.

To show that he really doesnt know what's going on "down on the farm", when he discussed Boise, he completely ignored the biggest story there imo, Candelario, and talked only about Hayden Simpson b/c he was a former 1st round draft pick and Shawon Dunston Jr, b/c of his dad and even referred to the "Shawon-O-Meter"

Dunston might be slightly relevant but not only is Candelario the biggest story in Boise, Hernandez and Amaya have to be #2 and #3.

Yeah, Vogelbach is a good athlete despite his size. Per Arizona Phil's accounts, he got quite a few triples in both Fall Instructs and Extended Spring Training. He even stole a few bases. It's one of the reasons he's compared favorably to Prince Fielder (though he's not as good an athlete as Prince).

the part about "plus for his size" just kind of suggests to me that he runs faster than one would expect a fat first baseman to run, and they're giving him extra credit because of that. i'd be really surprised if he runs as fast as half of professional baseball players.

FWIW, my BA 2012 prospect handbook says he is a "well below-average runner."

It says "average speed, plus for his size." what the hell would make you believe that it means something else?

Should we be concerned that there's any correlation with all the weight Vogelbach lost and the disappearance of his HR power?

He's been homer-less in 6 games and he's still slugging .600, so I think it might be a smidge early to be concerned.

It's a carry over from EXST, when he only hit two home runs.

I generally take Extended Spring Training stats with a grain of salt because you never know when they're working on certain pitches for pitchers or working on swing mechanics, etc. with the hitters. Obviously Vogelbach's struggles led him to stay in Mesa and that's a big red flag. On the flip side, he's clearly hitting a lot better than he did in Extended (in a very short sample). Arizona Phil said he's looked a lot better at the plate of late.
