For those who don't remember...

“I’m always going to watch what I take. I’m not going to say I have a bull’s-eye on my back, but I think a lot of people are waiting for me to get my first positive test and miss 50 games. They’d like that just so they can say, ‘We told you so.’ I know that won’t happen. I know I’m clean. I know the supplements I take are clean. I’m going to make sure of that.”

The Chicago Cubs center fielder said on an episode of HBO's "Real Sports" that aired Tuesday that he is the only player in baseball who still works with Conte, whose Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative triggered a federal investigation of steroids use and distribution among athletes.

Byrd reported to Cubs camp in Mesa, Ariz., on Wednesday and stood by his comments.

"To be honest with you, he could tell me how to beat the system. But then he would have to put himself in that situation again," Byrd said. "He wouldn't want to do that, and I wouldn't want to do that."

Byrd and Conte were featured in the "Real Sports" episode. Conte served jail time in 2005 for conspiracy to distribute steroids and money laundering.

Byrd, who began a program of supplements created by Conte three years ago when Byrd was with the Texas Rangers, said he has heard from Major League Baseball about his relationship with Conte.

"[They said] 'Why in the world are you working with Victor Conte? It was a choice I made, to work with him," Byrd told "Real Sports." "It's me believing in him which a lot of people do not.

"I'm not afraid of Victor Conte."

As far in the rear view mirror as he is, I am pretty saddened by this. He was very well respected and liked by those around him. I guess it just goes to show that it's not just the d bags who use PEDs. Looks like in the end, we really did sell high.

What he tested positive for, btw, is Tamoxifen. Also known as Nolvadex. Female anti-estrogen drug used by steroid users when cycling off.

Which is sort of funny, because Sullivan just called it a performance enhancer

It's entirely possible that he was clean and has tried something else in a more desperate attempt to get back to form.

Sure, but I doubt it.

Not shocked at all. Had a feeling he was roiding when the Cubs signed him a couple of years ago.

So the same kinda thing Manny got busted for the first time, right?

Judging by Laurence Holmes' comments on The Score, I take it that not everyone liked and respected Marlon Byrd. He stopped short of calling Byrd a "d bag", but did sarcastically state that "it couldn't happen to a nicer guy".

Close, that was Clomid, a drug used to help women get pregnant . Tamoxifen actually also binds to estrogen receptors like Clomid. Actually Tamoxifen's used for certain types of breast cancer.

That's why it sounded familiar to me.

Does he get paid during the suspension? If the cubs ate all of high contract, do the sox reimburse them?

That is a really good question. 50 games of a $6.5 million salary comes out to just over $2 million. Do we know exactly how much cash the Cubs sent to Boston?

My mom was on tamoxifen when she had breast cancer. About 1 in 10,000 also get cervical cancer from it and my mom was a not so lucky winner.

byrd often refuses to do interviews after games. that, and i believe when he does choose to do interviews, he's often pretty rude.

I am doing a cycle of testosterone right now so I find this interesting.

Clomid is used to prevent gyno.

Nolvadex is used as post cycle treatment. I just ordered mine a few hours ago.
