Interesting. I don't really blame him squarely for our hitting woes, but if they want to can him whatever go ahead.

Yeah, he was never any miracle worker or anything.

Press release:

CUBS DISMISS HITTING COACH RUDY JARAMILLO,

NAME JAMES ROWSON INTERIM HITTING COACH

TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2012

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today dismissed hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo and named James Rowson, the organization’s minor league hitting coordinator, the club’s interim major league hitting coach.

Additionally, Tom Beyers has been named interim minor league hitting coordinator.

Rowson, 35, joined the Cubs during the offseason after six seasons in the New York Yankees organization, including the last four years as their minor league hitting coordinator from 2008-11.

The 2012 campaign marks Rowson’s 11th season as a professional hitting coach or coordinator. Prior to joining the Yankees, he spent four seasons in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim minor league system as a hitting coach (2002-05). He joined the Yankees as a minor league hitting coach before the 2006 season and was promoted to minor league hitting coordinator two years later.

A former outfielder, Rowson was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round of the 1994 Draft and played professionally for four seasons, including three seasons in the Mariners system and one season in the Yankees system.

Rowson is a native of Mount Vernon, N.Y. and a graduate of Mount St. Michael High School in the Bronx.

Jaramillo was named the Cubs hitting coach on October 21, 2009 and was in his third season in his role.

Yeah, he was never any miracle worker or anything.

But he was widely respected and very highly paid so he had to be good.

I liked Gerald Perry.

Same.

He liked walks.

I was actually wondering about Jaramillo about a month ago. He was a holdover to begin with, and with the wholesale underachievement of the offense, he seemed like a likely(if not justified) scapegoat. Never did have his reclamation project or two like he did in Texas.

Seemed like he was close to having one on Stewart. Wrist issues seem to have messed that up, though.

Timing seems odd. There's no crush of fan anger right now. If I read it correctly from out of town, seems like everyone is just resigned to the team being shitty this year.

So it's got to be some fundamental disagreement, I'd think.

Maybe they don't want Jaramillo working with Rizzo?

If his work with any specific hitter is feeding into this, I'd guess they don't like the regression in Castro's approach.

I was about to sugges the same thing. Jaramillo seems to be known for an agressive style of hitting and our FO certainly values the walk, taking pitches, etc. I didn't expect him back next year, but still find it a bit odd to see him fired midway through. I guess someone has to be the scapegoat.

If they wanted a scapegoat, couldn't they have burned Koyie Hill at the stake or something?

I think it's fairly obvious at this point, Hill has some major dirt on everyone in the Cubs organization that scares them shitless.
