#Cubs take Pierce Johnson at 43. Might have been mid-1st-rder before forearm strain in April. Potential No. 3-4 SP. #mlbdraft

man, reading draft chat is kind of sad.

"Who will draft mccullers?"

"Well, only a couple teams have the slot to sign him."

What a terrible system.

Yeah. Who exactly does this system benefit?

Reinsdorf.

And the players.

Nice pick. Not really the guy I really wanted, but there's still 3 I'd be thrilled with. As it is, Johnson is a guy we got later than he should have gone too. I do like it, but I'd love a couple of others.

Forearm strains are often precursors to TJS, but I like the arsenal of this kid.

Kiley McDaniel: Saw Pierce Johnson face Miami a few days ago and he hit 96 with a plus slider and usable changeup. Some injury issues and isn't a great touch and feel guy so could be reliever but when healthy is electric.

have to give credit to PSD poster for this gem.

I'm going out and piercing my johnson in celebration

Seriously, it took me like 2 minutes to digest his name.

Let's see what happens with Soler first. Not like the Cubs are going to be the only one on him.

He's in parentheses. What more do you want?

But I totally believe we have a deal in place.

Based on what? Many teams could be under the impression they have a deal with him, illegal, but possible.

Hope the Cubs get him, but any talk of a secret deal already being done is all hypothetical speculation for now.

Media reports, rumors from semi-reliable message board sources, and the Cubs' pattern of behavior in the last year.

Even if a deal was in place, seeing as it was of the illegal variety theres nothing to stop Pavner from accepting a higher offer. I believe that the offer was 27 mil, which may not have been an official offer but rather a number put out there by Theo as an attempt to peacock away some of the suitors who would not have expected or been willing to invest that kind of money in such an unproven commodity, thus making a lot of them second guess their persuit.
