St. Louis Cardinals are holding a press conference at 1:30. Speculation is that Chris Carpenter is done for.

They are not expecting Carpenter to pitch at all in 2013.

Have to wonder if he's done for good. They certainly have options in Miller/Rosenthal/Martinez within the organization, but I wouldn't be surprised if they bring Lohse back now.

Which one of Miller, Rosenthal, Martinez will win the CY Young now when they step in his place in the rotation?

Just this week both Webb and Carpenter seem to be done. Those were 2 pitchers who I hated seeing pitch against the Cubs when they were healthy. Ton of respect for both of them, even the one who played for the Cards.

He wears No. 17, as a tribute to Mark Grace, the Cubs first baseman and emphatic free spirit.

''I like the way Gracie plays,'' Helton said. ''All-out, and with a full-range game. I also wish I could be like him and not wear batting gloves, like the old-timers. But I get a better grip with gloves. And I'd shave my head like he does, if my ears weren't so big.''

Both Grace and Helton bat and throw left-handed. Each is an All-Star, Grace three times in his 13-year career, Helton for the first time this season. When the two players found themselves together at first base in a recent game, Helton told Grace why he wore No. 17.

''I was flattered,'' Grace said, ''but Todd is going to be a whole lot better player than I ever was. He's got a great talent and has a great attitude. He's not like a lot of guys today. When he hits a home run, he doesn't dance around the bases.''

guess he tries to emulate mark grace off the field too.

Paraphrasing....

On Edwin Jackson in context of rebuild: Gotta do things in pieces. Can't get a ton of players at once when you decide you're ready to really compete.

Talking about positives out of last season...Rizzo, Shark, Barney. Silver linings in minor leagues, but don't lose sight of major league team. Looking for more core guys to emerge.

Talking about Kane County: Talked about how good a team was at Boise last year, and how many of those will play at Kane County. Complimented Peoria, but excited about Kane County.

Asked about how much patience for rebuild the Ricketts family has: Complimented the Ricketts, talked about how the Cubs have never really had a long term plan...they've had a hot team here and there. Whole FO wants to win badly, but don't wanna try to do it too quickly at the sacrifice of long term.

Asked about Curt Schilling's comments this morning about someone in the Red Sox clubhouse in regards to PED's: Hoyer denied that either he or Theo were involved in that conversation. Talked about how well MLB and the union are doing with testing...etc etc. Don't caaaaaaarrrrrrre.

Still talking about PED's and affecting baseball conversation.

Talking about Castro now. Spiegel asking about his numbers at various positions in the lineup. Hoyer talking about how lineup spots can get in guy's heads, but that year over year, lineup spots don't really make a difference. Envisions him getting on base more, and more power.

Hoyer's definition of a "prospect": Combination of scouting and numbers. Certain physical skills. Back to Castro, he's younger than most of the guys on the top 100 list, but has 3 years of major league experience.

End of interview.

And even if it is true it is such a cowardly thing to say "someone" in the RedSox organization. If you have something to say then name the person, don't just leave it hanging out there and make everyone else that was in the organization at the time deal with speculation they were involved.
