That Mike Trout guy is pretty good, too bad he's being overshadowed by Harper despite having a better rookie season so far.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/mike-trout-is-pretty-good-too/

FWIW, Harper has a lower K rate, higher BB rate, and Trout is benefiting from a somewhat high .356 BABIP. And Harper doesn't turn 20 until after this season.

Both are awesome, though.

i think trout has always had a high babip in the minors, though, and given that he's blazing fast and hits a lot of line drive, .356 doesn't seem too crazy. maybe a little high, but i'd expect him to be a high babip guy.

Good hitters generally have high BABIP's, though. Trout's could very well be a byproduct of just being a damn good hitter.

He was bad ass after his recall last year. Got off to a bit of a slow start this year, but he's really tapping into that potential. One of my favorite players right now.

Dexter Fowler's hitting .300/.400/.600 right now

(well, .296/.400/.586 to be exact)

Fowler also has a chance to be the 8th member of the 20-20-20 club, with a 19-19-25 pace

Bryce Harper's 162-game pace right now is 35-20-25, but he won't get enough AB to be able to reach that this season

What the F happened to Adrian Gonzalez??? I went to look at box scores and saw he was hitting 6th so I clicked on his name to see his stats this year, his line is .270/.321/.416/.737 and he only has 4 HR's. He's only striking about 1% more than his career average and his BABIP is only .010 points down. It appears he has lost all power, ISO is .143 and he has a career .216 ISO.

That's insane.

yeah his home runs were down last year too. everyone figured that he'd be a big power source with the short porch in fenway.

I also forgot to add, regarding Gonzalez. His LD% is higher this year than for his career (23.3 v. 21.1), GB% is lower (39.4 v. 41.2) and his FB% is nearly the same (37.2 v. 37.7). HR/FB rate is way down as you would imagine (6.2 v. 16.4). So it really looks like he just really has lost his power.

Local radio guys had some unbelievable facts about Joey Votto. For example, he has only popped a ball up in the infield once over the past 2 seasons (and none this year). Also, he has only pulled a fly ball foul into the stands ONCE in his entire career (his rookie year).

I read that foul ball fact in the local paper the other day and found it very hard to believe.

Yeah it repeats that claim in the SI article but I just can't imagine that's true. So I guess we're supposed to believe that in the entirety of his MLB career he's never gotten out in front of a breaking or offspeed pitch....

Sure, they've just been grounded or line drives, not fly balls

He could have hit a grounder or linedrive that way.
