This basis of argument has never changed.

All Mojo has argued is that there's statistical information to indicate that Stewart is capable of still being a good hitter when his wrist isn't injured. The reason he said you're moving the goalposts and putting words in his mouth is that you tried to tell him his argument is Stewart definitely will become a good hitter.

Do you see?

Ok, I see that. I really didn't mean it that way.

I really just think he has shown enough that it won't happen. Now with the wrist injury perhaps there is light at the end of tunnel but before that I just didn't see it. Now the question could be "when did the injury become a factor? Has it been there all year or did it flair up? We probably won't ever know for sure.

As long as we're looking at monthly splits, has anyone yet pointed out Colvin's .268 OBP in July? Playing half his games in Coors?

He sucks. Stewart sucked and got hurt.

Let's move on.

Why does this thread keep popping to the top of the list?

Stewart hasn't played in a month and a half and he's not coming back any time soon. It's reasonable to think he'll never play for the Cubs again.

In order to move on, I humbly suggest this thread be locked. Other discussions can be continued elsewhere.

Why, is he going to die?

The value proposition for acquiring a presumably healthy Ian Stewart for this year is much different than keeping Ian Stewart in 2013 after he had wrist surgery in July. If you believe his 2013 is going to be limited by his recovery(assuming his ability/production isn't an issue), then you're keeping a guy in hope that he'll be both healthy and productive for his final arbitration year in 2014. There's as many/more questions about him now, and now you're looking at one fewer year of team control. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they non-tendered him, but I wouldn't be surprised if they give him another shot for lack of a better option.

Pretty much. If guys in the minors keep progressing and the FO is confident it makes Stewart redundant, great. If they end up holding on to him just to give the prospects more time and because the 3B market sucks and they want to see what he can do, works for me.

Allegedly Vitters will get an audition this fall to see if he should get the job or get a shot to earn the job. Stewart's future may hinge on that outcome.

BUT it's not like we have bunches of guys knocking on the door to take ML spots. He could step into Baker's role or pinch hit. He'll still only be 27.

Hopefully Vitters doesn't cut into Barney's PT.

DeJesus has done enough of that already.

OK, that really wasn't my point back then...it was more about playing young kids to find out what they had rather than singling out anyone by name, but I probably deserve that. Looking back I should have had more confidence in the staff to give everyone a look. I think they (and the fans) have gotten a pretty good look at the main guys (campana, barney, cardenas, valbuena, clevenger, etc).I should have known they would give everyone who deserved it more than an adequate shot.

I'll alibi on the past administrations and staffs having no idea what they were doing.

That being said, If Vitters takes at bats away from Valbuena, I'll be pissed!

Kaplan just tweeted...

Tyler Colvin just drilled his 2nd triple of the night. He is 3-3. How is Ian Stewart working out? Oh yeah, I forgot.

If his name was Tijuana Colvinuez, I doubt we'd see him tweeting that.

Unbelievable. I guess 2 triples in a game makes up for how he's put this line up over the last 4 weeks (during which he managed to start a whopping 14 games, y'know, because he's so amazing and all and surely the Rockies would want him out there as much as possible):

.182 .250 .364 .614 complete with 19 strikeouts in 61 PA.

His July as a whole was a sunny .200 .263 .457 .720 with 22 strikeouts in 77 PA.

Kaplan is unbearable. If he wants to pull for the guy, great, but don't be so disingenuous about it, especially when your [expletive] job is supposedly to analyze sports.
