No one left from the '04 Cubs team now that Wood and Dempster are both gone. #GoAskLarry

Sources: Rangers send 3B Christian Villanueva and RHP Kyle Hendricks to Cubs for Dempster.

Neither of them were top 20 guys in the Rangers organization in the preseason according to Mayo.

Villanueva was BA's #100 overall this year.

but hendricks has been ridiculous in A+, but he's old for that league

15 walks and 112 strikeouts has to mean something

Sickels' update:

10) Christian Villanueva, 3B, Grade B-: Hitting .285/.356/.421 with 10 homers, 24 walks, 83 strikeouts in 375 at-bats in High-A, nine steals. He is playing very well defensively and the bat has potential. Often gets overlooked in the Rangers system and is blocked behind Olt, but if I were trading with the Rangers I would ask about this guy.

Among players not listed ... Right-hander Kyle Hendricks in High-A has shown tremendous command (112/15 K/BB)

With BA, Goldstein, Law and Sickels around, you should never refer to Mayo.

I hope he gets shelled in Arlington and destroys a big chunk of his FA value.

me too.

Just out of curiosity, if we had traded Dempster for Delgado, what would you have expected in return for Maholm and Johnson? Probably about what we end up getting for Dempster, so it all evens out. Yeah, we all have a bad case of trade deadline blue balls, but this is more the fault of Epstein and Coletti playing a 2 week long game of chicken that nobody won than Dempsters. I have no I'll will toward Dempster at this point, but I do hope that The Dodgers crash and burn hard.

This is just a kick in the nuts compared to Delgado. Again, thanks Dempster.

we may have gotten nothing good for maholm/johnson if dempster went to atlanta. it still sucks because delgado is clearly the best of the bunch, but this seems like a decent haul.

That makes 0 sense.

Villanueva and Hendricks seem like a good haul. Hendricks averaging 1 walk per 9 and almost 8 Ks per 9 for an unreal 7.47 K/BB ratio. He's age appropriate for High A right hander with good size at 6'2".

Villanueva is solid defensively at third with a good bat and a good approach at the plate and he doesn't turn 22 until next June.

Does Mayo update his top 20 team lists regularly?

I ask because he's already added Vizcaino to his rankings (at #3), but I'm perplexed that Brett Jackson is still his #1 over Baez.

Villanueva is solid. He's definitely inside our top 10, have to research more to figure out where. Hendricks is kind of interesting, I'm sure he'll fit inside our top 30 somewhere. Not bad at all, just a little bit letdown after yesterday and the Delgado saga, no Garza trade.....

Until I knew we might have had Delgado, this would have been a perfectly acceptable, even nice, haul for Dempster. Now we got a top-100 (barely) prospect for him and it just feels kind of hollow.

Overall deadline: Solid, acceptable, not quite as amazing as hoped.

Have fun pitching in 105 degree heat in a bandbox Demps, and I hope the Dodgers finish 2nd in the West due to crap pitching. Edited by Elrhino

you can't just look at the numbers in a vacuum for these guys.

Pitcher with a solid K rate and doesn't walk many guys, and a top 100 3B prospect. Maybe we didnt get what we wanted, but it looks like Theo did.
