It's been speculated he liked playing for Fredi, which is why Atlanta was high on his list. Who knows?

from what i can tell, fredi gonzalez was his manager for 12 starts in 1997-98 and then dempster played on the marlins when gonzalez was the third base coach. that hardly seems like a situation that would lead to them being BFFs.

FRIENDSHIP DECLARED INELIGIBLE.

That was [expletive] great.

Also he made a list of teams he would like to be traded to and the Braves were #2.

oh i must have missed the part where there was a press conference and he held up a list of teams and the braves were #2 on the list. apparently that was common knowledge and not third-hand whispers down the lane.

most people believe that the dodgers are #1, so i'm having a hard time understanding why the braves - nowhere close to los angeles geographically - would be #2. i've seen reports that he'd like to be on the west coast because of family, so maybe the braves were on the list of teams he'd consider but ultimately decided not to play for them.

You can't see why he would want to play for a playoff contender? Really?

(a) learn to read. the comment you posted has nothing to do with what i wrote.

(b) dempster has pitched in the playoffs before. there is no guarantee that the braves will be going to the playoffs. a player may value stability in his personal life more than uprooting his life for two months. kerry wood decided not to be traded to the phillies last year.

This is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen

The [expletive] is that.

To you guys that live in Chicago: Have you guys heard any of that stuff before? I figure you hear some things from time to time about guys partying and all that. What the hell is this [expletive], I guess is what I'm asking?

I've heard it a little bit. My girlfriend works at Children's Memorial and I guess she's overheard some stuff indicating that the Dempsters were having some family problems.

You can even keep your family in Chicago for now while you pitch in Atlanta for 3 months.

yeah you have three kids under the age of 6, one of which needs significant medical attention, what's the big deal about being an absentee dad for a few months

Are you a dick to everyone? Or am I just the lucky target tonight? I have said nothing rude or out of line and all you have been is a sarcastic prick.

so you didn't post this condescending and sarcastic comment?

which, i will reiterate, had absolutely nothing to do with what i wrote.

How is that condescending or sarcastic?

I don't remember posting in this thread for quite a while, actually, so I don't think so. It was Kyle, I was just assuming he was being stupid again.

My hypothesis: Dempster is scared to go to a playoff team.

Observation: Dempster has not accepted a trade to a playoff team.

Result: Hypothesis confirmed.

QED, ladies

oh he's getting cornholed over in rants, and it's epic, so he's understandably flustered.

Which is fine, but don't give the indication that you are ok with bring traded. If Dempster would have come out and said I don't want to be traded, this wouldn't be a big deal.

He shouldn't have said HE wanted to help us get the best return possible. Saying this now DOES make him look like an ass.

Well He'll be an absentee Dad in LA and he really wants to go to LA, so. That's obviously not the reason for him (his daughter).

Webster is underwhelming, to say the least. But underwhelming is pretty much what Im expecting now that everyone knows the Dodgers are the only ones that will get a 10/5 sign off. I imagine we'll probably get even less than Webster.

Missing out on Delgado would be disappointing, but it'a not like we're getting fucked out of Dylan Bundy or Matt Moore here.

Their are possibilities. If LA is what he wants, there's another team in town looking for starting pitching. Even if he wants to stay in the AL, and at this point he'd likely compromise.

If he wants to stay close, there's the White Sox. Their farm system might look like a wasteland, but if Kenny Williams feel as though they have a snowball's chance in hell of landing Greinke, they must have something. That's part of the reason that you put together a top notch scouting team, to comb the lower levels of the minors for raw talent, not just watch the same top prospects night after night.

And let's not forget our neighbors in St. Louis. They're close enough to Chicago that he should accept it. Granted some fans might not be able to stomach it, but it's not their choice.

Now that I think about it, there was a Jenny Dempster twitter account which popped up a few times on Twitter when the trade first began falling apart, and made like 2-3 tweets along the lines of I don't know what's going on. Not sure if it was a real one, but I tried to locate it later to see if it had any further updates, and it had seemingly vanished. I assumed it was because people were asking her to many questions, but this could make sense. It was before this came out.
