Why could he be so much for LA and against Atlanta? The teams have identical nearly records(playoff prospects) etc. I just don't get it. Could he have had some type of handshake agreement with his agent for an extension in LA?

1 - Lilly

2 - The city

3 - Apparently the proximity to Vancouver

Not necessarily in any particular order, but those are a few reasons he might really favor LA over Atlanta.

If, and it's obviously an "if" the Dodgers have Eovaldi on the table for Dempster and he's willing to go there, just go ahead and make the deal. I like Delgado a bit more, but Eovaldi is still a helluva return.

ESPN's Jayson Stark was told by a source that the status of the Ryan Dempster-to-Atlanta deal should be resolved "shortly."

Shortly means August 20th.

He's reportedly a Canadian defector and must first establish residency in the Dominican Republic before any trade can be made official.

So you envision the payroll being slashed again this offseason and throwing away 2013?

Maybe, who knows at this point. But if they're gonna spend money on a pitcher, don't you think this FO is probably more likely to spend it on a younger player that they might be able to get a few productive seasons out of?

Sure all things being equal. How many of these types of pitchers will be available this offseason? I think the FO would rather go 1/$12.5 with Dempster than 5/$60 for McCarthy or 5/$70 for Sanchez.

Doug Padilla says Ryan Dempster has arrived in the Cubs’ clubhouse, and adds this: “Deal w Braves looks to be dying on the vine.”

If Dempster is creating a situation where the Dodgers are the only bidders for his services, I don't see why they would give up Eovaldi ... or much of anything, for that matter.

Dempster says he's considering his "options," and will take his time to make a decision. Sez Cubs did not "blindside" him, but media did.

That gives me the impression we'll know by tomorrow.

Ok, that blindside stuff makes no sense.

Dempster says might take much oF the next week to consider options.

Or not.

Dempster is a by product of the old FO regime, where players are adored by all. With the new FO, hopefully they are setting the tone that the players don't run the team. This is like the freakin NBA

Asked if 100% chance starts for cubs wed, said "yeah, that's what my mindset is." Atl deal indefinite hold at best.

Dempster says would prefer more options (read Dodgers)

You'd think he would have had a sit down with his family at any point in say, oh the past 2 years, about the possibility of playing somewhere else and how they'd feel about it. There's a part of this story we are missing...Maybe there never was a list with LA and ATL on it

Dempster refutes report he was "blindsided" by Atlanta agreement. Says club kept him informed. Was upset it leaked before he gave an answer.

Oh FFS. I'd tell him to cry about it, but apparently he already is. That's even dumber than the blindsided business.

Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan

Demp: "I have a pretty good idea of where I want to go." Wouldn't discuss Braves/LA. Willing to take til deadline to decide.

We're going to end up effectively giving him away to the Dodgers. He should keep his mouth shut.
