Hearing Demp may not be only player moved from Cubs end...

http://forums.prosportsdaily.com/showthread.php?p=23070391#post23070391

Total random prediction: Maybe this is where we move Brett Jackson to help get a young pitcher, as we were rumored to want to do last winter.

If we're talking about the Braves, they've been seeking a replacement for Chipper, so Vitters could make more sense. While I'm a believer in Vitters, a lot of people are not and depending on what he could add to our return, it could be viewed as selling high. If that happened, we could then try and work a Garza/Olt deal.

No, Reed Johnson would not be holding them up. However, settling on a prospect could. Assuming that Dempster has approved the trade but not the extension part they could be discussing prospects to close the deal. Won't be a top 10-15 but won't be a Rebel Ridling or Casey Coleman type either. My guess is something along the lines of a Brooks Raley, Dallas Beeler, Erik Jokisch, Logan Watkins, Arismendy Alcantara type. And if they end up with more of a prospect than our side planned to give up, then our side could be asking for an upgrade as our extra piece.

You HONESTLY think that one of those guys would be the difference between the Braves giving up Delgado and not? Minor league filler?

There's a very wide gap between some of those guys. Alcantara is possibly(is for me) a top 10 prospect in our system.

The difference between the Braves giving up Delgado is Dempster. That's what they want. That's the big piece. However, he's obviously a 2 month rental, and if they feel that he won't sign an extension, they may simply want a little something else thrown in. Unless they throw in something else to balance it out, it certainly shouldn't be one of our top prospects. One of our veterans plus a fringe prospect should suffice. And there's a difference between minor league filler and fringe prospects. I'm not suggesting that we send them James Adduci and Justin Berg.

Sources say Ryan Dempster had given preliminary indications that he would accept a trade to the #braves from #cubs

But when trade leaked out in media Monday before #cubs informed him, Dempster was not happy. Felt blindsided, said a source.

Dempster is pitching Wednesday, so #cubs and #braves should know soon whether he'll accept or reject the deal.

Dempster deal yet another example of what GMs now have to deal with in the Twitter age.

Blindsided? He's been on the block for over a month. This was his 2nd choice. Just 3-4 days ago a trade with The Dodgers was supposedly near completion. How much less blindsided could he have possibly been?

I think it's mostly Dempster being butthurt that he was informed about the trade 3rd party rather than in person by the front office. I'm sure he felt he had a good enough relationship with Theo that he throught he would be kept informed (thus the pre game sit down with Theo several weeks ago). In reality, this deal might have came to a head really fast and leaked through Atlanta's people before Theo could get the deal officially settled on and parlayed to Dempster. Edited by Elrhino

I'm just guessing it's not fun to hear you're gonna be traded from Twitter or reporters before your own bosses tell you, regardless of other circumstances. I can't imagine he'd reject the trade though solely because of that. He still wanted to play in Atlanta.

He thought he was going to the Dodgers. Wanted to be told first by the Cubs. It's an extra day. Easy.

He's really being a bitch about this whole thing. The Cubs have been more than fair with him over the years (strong contracts, supporting his foundation, support for his daughter, etc...). They clearly told him they were going to trade him. For him to act like this is some sort of surprise or slap in the face is just not correct.

Just because you act like this is a video game doesn't mean it actually is.

Or maybe when he and Theo were chatting in the bleachers he was told "if any trade happens, we'll tell you first, cause you need to approve it anyway", and then was a little irritated when he showed up to work yesterday and was bombarded with questions about a trade he had no knowledge of because Atlanta's front office has loose lips. People need to seriously take a step back with the Dempster vitriol. It's been less than 24 hours since the Braves deal broke, and the only evidence of Dempster being unhappy about it is a vaguely worded and sourced tweet from one guy.

While I understand being annoyed by the initial surprise of it all, I would be fairly annoyed with Dempster if it was why he ultimately denies the trade.

Of course, that's about three unique steps of projection...

But we're nowhere near that.

I'm gonna be really mad at him when he punches Theo and says "I'm not going anywhere, bitch!"

And then torches Wrigley in response.

It's still damn near impossible to pretend the situation would blindside him.
