man, that'd be so sweet. not holding my breath though. i feel like parise is pittsburgh bound

I cannot personally see a way we could afford both Parise and Suter without having to trade someone like Kane. And maybe that is their thought process. If they land either Parise or Suter or both, Kaner could be gone.

Yeah definitely I am fine with that.

assuming they each got 9 mil per, that's 11 million in space they'd have to clear. Hammer + Montador + Stalberg + Frolik should add up to about 11 million

line up becomes:

Toews- Parise- Hossa

Kane- Saad- Sharp

Bolland- Bickell - Shaw

Kruger- Mayers- Carcillo/Bollig/ Hayes

Keith - Seabrook

Suter - Oduaya

Leddy - Brookbank/ Olsen

I think 9 per is a little high for both of them. 8 is more likely but either way your analysis of what they would need to do to afford them is about right.

Today has to be the day, right? At least all the Twitter chatter and speculation is making my depositions go by quickly.

Ugh. They are not going to trade Kane. Trades of guys mentioned below (Hammer, Frolik, etc.) are more likely. As would Sharp. Or an amnesty of Hossa.

According to Capgeek, those 4 total up to 9.4 mil. But also, replacing 2 of those 4 players (with Suter and Parise being the other 2 replacements) with minor league fodder ads about another million to the payroll doesnt it? So we'd still be 1.6 short right? And that's only if we got rid of those original 4 for nothing tangible, which I guess is doable if we trade for prospects, draft picks, 2 way players.

Yeah I'm in on the amnesty of Hossa idea (not sure if it's 100% going to be in the CBA, but I've heard a lot of people talking about it). Yes, it would take away a big piece of the current team. But anytime you can basically trade a 33 year old top line forward for a 27 year old top line forward, you're doing alright.

This guy on twitter claims to be a hockey insider and has 15k followers but seems a little sketchy so grain of salt this

More on Parise: Even tho #BlackHawks have upgraded offer source says it is HIGHLY unlikely he'll break verbal agreement with #Pens for CHI.

Yeah and its just him breaking the news about a verbal agreement.

I've missed this amnesty talk. What's the deal with it?

It's part of the discussion about what may happen in the new CBA. You'd be able to buyout a contract without taking any cap hit, one time.

I'm not sure. All of the guys on that roster are signed but I'm not sure how/ where they count against the cap.

Gooney is right that neither are worth 9 million. I was figuring high end as worst case scenario. If they each took 8 that would be a pretty good pay day and stays under the cap though realistically, 7.5 is more in line with what the Hawks should be comfortable doing.

I can't help thinking, and maybe it's wishful on my part, that all of the Parise to the Pens has been a negotiating ploy to get a better offer from the Devils since going to the Pens would be 2nd only to the Rangers in terms of worst case scenarios. He did say, at one point, staying was his first choice. Everybody says that though.

don't do this to me. it will hurt too bad when we don't get either of them. but that is a great team.

So a Minnesota reporter caught up with Parise this afternoon at the airport, and although the thought was he would decide before the holiday, sure doesn't seem like he's in a hurry.

Not that he needs to be or we deserve him to be.

But this has been going on for three days and he hasn't even talked to his fiance about it yet?

Okay now that I actually watched the video of him talking, I think he's basically made up his mind and just wants to run it by his family.

amnesty hossa? holy christ, what is wrong with you people? yes yes, age, concussion, blah blah blah, but marian hossa was THE BEST player on our team last year. without him, the hawks don't make the playoffs. clearly, the solution to affording either or both of those dudes is something other than getting rid of your best player

wtf guys

Posted
Hossa was great last year but you can't go throwing around "best player" and "Hossa" that confidently when Toews was a contender for the Hart trophy before his concussion.

And?

I like this argument. Who is the best forward on the Hawks, Hossa or Toews? The fact that this could even be debated demonstrates seanimal's point. Frankly, the Hawks don't have any bad contracts among the core. They have some annoying overpays, but terrible overpays, for guys like Frolik, Olesz, and Hjalmarsson. And possibly Crawford.

Would you rather part with Hossa or Sharp? On ability alone, Sharp goes. But looking at the contracts, Hossa would go.

i love parise, but the more i think about it... the more i'd almost rather have suter. the defense was a massive problem last season, and they haven't really done anything to change it yet.

what a horrible argument. toews played 22 fewer games, 27% of the season, than hossa.
