Not sure the last time I saw Wrigley this empty

If the baseball reporters in this town were any good, we'd be getting an article soon speculating on how much lost revenue this means.

I'll wait for tomorrow to see how many show up when the wind chill isn't in the low 30s

At 3-11, with no change in projected winning percentage, you can already knock three wins off of whatever preseason win total you projected them to.

That puts the high 60s within reach for a lot of projections. Do some fire sales and get some more negative variance, and 100 losses isn't out of the question.

Ian Stewart with one of the best 0-for-4s you will ever see.

You're not kidding. That bastard has no luck.

And Chase Headley is hitting .292/.435/.646 with 4 HR despite playing for the 1 team putting up a legit fight in the fecal league. Luckily, we have 2 MVP candidates in Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto.

What did the Pads want for Headley again, or did the talks ever get that far?

At 3-11, with no change in projected winning percentage, you can already knock three wins off of whatever preseason win total you projected them to.

That puts the high 60s within reach for a lot of projections. Do some fire sales and get some more negative variance, and 100 losses isn't out of the question.

It's not out of the question, but individual performances have been down, the competition has been tough and the coming departures will be somewhat offset (hopefully) buy equal or better replacements from the minors. Add the markedly weaker second half schedule and I'll say 100 losses isn't likely.

I thought the first few weeks were going to be brutal, though not this bad. I'll guess 71-73 wins.

I honestly think we'll be better once we do sell off. Other than Garza, we have a capable replacement or someone already better, ready to come up.

I don't know if he was available at all, but he would have cost a hell of a lot more than Stewart did.

And I haven't given up on Stewart. He has worked the count and hit the ball a lot better than his numbers indicate, at least to this point. Plus he is a pretty damned good defender. Chase Headley wouldn't be a difference maker for this mess anyway.

On the other hand, more negative variance isn't all that likely, several prospects are waiting to offer improvement, and the schedule has been weighted against them so far. They have about 50-55 games scheduled against the bottom of the barrel teams, and it will be mid to late May before they play their first game against them. They have 21 games against the Cards, Brewers, and Reds before their first game against the Pirates or Astros.
