nice .500/.600/.900 line for Welington now

How much longer does Geo get?

Presumably more than a week.

While I agree mostly, I don't think that it's unreasonable to let Clevenger have a few starts, and if he keeps hitting, let him have a few more.

Josh Vitters has an .880 OPS, which is good for 6th in the Iowa lineup.

Campana is hitting .342, which is good for 5th in the Iowa lineup.

I know it's a small sample, they've played several games in Round Rock, this is a pretty talented Iowa team, etc. but still. Ridiculous.

The great thing is that of all of the relevant prospects, Sappelt is the only one struggling, and his ceiling is really more of a 4th OF than anything. Jackson, Rizzo, Vitters, Castillo, and to a lesser extent, Cardenas and Campana are all guys who are worth getting excited about, and if they do get a call in September or sooner, there's Burgess, Watkins, and maybe Ha ready to take their places.

Now the pitching is another story. Aside from Wood, the rest of the rotation seems full of 5 starters at best. Wood was decent but not great, going 5 giving up 8 H 3 ER 3 BB and 7 K and was in line for the win but Nate Robertson took that off his plate.

Midseason at least. Theyll probably want value if possible so theyll probzbly give him time.

I could see the Rays making a fair offer soonish. Their situation behind the plate is a mess.

The question is what is considered a fair offer for a guy whose OPS is less than his weight?

We're a week into the season. No trade is happening this soon. Soto isn't this bad. Neither is Byrd. At the very earliest, late May could conceivably be a time when we'd start talking seriously to teams. Nothing's happening before then and even at that point, we better hope there's more than one team in need, or else it's such a buyer's market, it still doesn't make sense to make a deal anyway.

I could see them deal byrd as soon as a decent deal comes. They'd probably slide campana in temporarily.

Just guessing but it wouldn't surprise me if szczur was... told... to take more walks and is trying to find a balance b/w instincts and discipline. Just a guess, tho.

Rough outing for Concepcion in Arizona:

Arizona Phil[/url]"]Rob Whitenack (rehabbing from June 2011 TJS) threw two innings (27 pitches) of shutout ball with three strikeouts, but Cuban southpaws Gerardo Concepcion and Frank del Valle allowed a combined seven runs on 10 hits, five walks, a HBP, and two wild pitches over the next six innings, as the Athletics defeated the Cubs 7-4 in Extended Spring Training action this morning on Field #2 (AKA “Connie Mack Field”) at the Papago Sports Complex in Phoenix, AZ.

After throwing three innings of shutout ball and looking like a major league veteran in his EXST debut last Monday versus the Brewers (when he threw 75% strikes and kept the opposing hitters off-balance by effectively mixing-up his pitches), Concepcion showed today what happens when he pitches from behind in the count and has to throw a fastball over the plate.

He had an excellent first inning of work, striking out the side (including the first two hitters on six pitches), but then began to pitch from behind starting with his second inning, eventually allowing six hits (including three wall-banger doubles), and even walking the bases loaded at one point.

Concepcion's strength is throwing strikes (especially "strike one") and then working the hitter, so when he struggles with his command (as he did in his later innings today) he can get nailed, and it isn't pretty.

I was just looking at his career line and thought the same thing:

2011 Peoria 7.0% BB rate, 9.4% K rate

2011 Daytona 2.8% BB rate, 11.0% K rate

2012 Daytona 18.4% BB rate, 18.4% K rate

Small sample, of course, but that screams approach change.

Pretty much everyone is in Daytona offensively with the exception of Silva. John Andreoli has been pretty good, as ha Alcantara offensively, but he already has 6 errors.
