I hope Bour can continue to have some good seasons and Vogebach can fulfill his power potential. That would give us some first base depth in the minors that I don't think I remember the Cubs ever having.

If we're talking important Cubs prospects, Castillo should be in the "big" group as well. Im also high on Cardenas for no reason other than his former status as a top prospect. Campana's had a hit in every game too, though there's nothing big about Tony.

Baseball America[/url]"]The Cubs decided to let Anthony Rizzo get some more seasoning in Triple-A to start the year, but he’s showing he once again that he doesn’t have much left to prove in the minors.

 

Rizzo has hits in all five games he’s played so far for Triple-A Iowa, and he was a force Monday night. Rizzo homered twice against Albuquerque–the game was in Iowa, not at the launching pad in Albuquerque–and went 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs. Rizzo also homered Sunday against Round Rock and has gotten off to a .474/.500/.947 line through 19 at-bats.

 

Rizzo is coming off a 2011 season in which he struggled in the majors with the Padres (.141/.281/.242 in 128 at-bats) but lit up Triple-A with Tucson (.331/.404/.652 with 26 homers in 356 at-bats). Coming over to the Cubs as part of the Andrew Cashner deal in the offseason meant a shift to the less hitter-friendly half of the Pacific Coast League, but that hasn’t slowed Rizzo down so far.

 

About the only question the lefthanded-swinging Rizzo has left to answer is about his ability to hit for power against lefty pitching–24 of his 26 Triple-A homers last year were against righthanders. Both of his homers last night were also against righthanders, but he did homer against Round Rock lefty Michael Kirkman on Sunday. Keep it up, and it’ll only be a matter of time before Rizzo kicks down the door to Chicago.

About that...

 

I'm no scout, but my impression from the game last night was that Kyler's time to the plate was pretty slow. There wasn't much deception in the delivery either.

 

He was impressive... but he's being developed like a starter, not a pen arm.
