It's funny because Wood pitched in the first two games.

It's unconscionable that the manager would use the second best reliever on the team in back to back close games with an off day in between after not getting a lot of work in spring training. No manager would make that move.

I'm intrigued by the idea that Wood is the second best reliever on the team. I mean, if you have faith in his 2011, then he's got to be the best, right?

Or you could just take a quick glance at any of several projection systems, which all see Marmol's 2011 as a blip more than a trend.

I'll admit that my faith in us scoring three more runs with the combination of our bullpen allowing no more is not high.

Jumped on here late and didn't see anything earlier in the thread, but I found the Len/Bob exchange during Ramirez's first at bat really interesting.

Brenly said something to the effect of "I'm really surprised to see such a tepid reaction to Ramirez in his return to Wrigley, given everything he did for the Cubs in the last eight years. For crying out loud, Theriot and Fontenot, players who didn't accomplish anywhere near what Ramirez did for the Cubs, got stronger positive reactions in their return."

I know that Brenly was pretty hard on Ramirez for his (perceived) laziness, but this was about as close as a broadcaster can come to saying "fans unfairly like white players more than guys like Ramirez."

I know he was booed when he came back with the Cardinals. Don't know if he got booed when he was with the Dodgers. Regardless, what's interesting is not the truth of the reaction to Fontenot and Theriot, but the fact that the broadcaster not-so-subtly called out a whole lot of people.

Speaking of the pen, anyone know why Russell hasn't pitched yet? He's on the active roster so I assume he's not hurt.

Theriot didn't play against the Cubs with the Dodgers.

Well, I didn't hear the comment. But I would be surprised if he was thinking racism.

Seems that Derosa was warmly received upon his first AB as a visitor.

It's a shame Brenly's statement didn't come during a national broadcast.

He appears to be being saved for LOOGY situations before the 8th inning. He warmed up yesterday, iirc.

Yeah, they're terrible. I was confused at first as to what it was because I didn't see a video playing on any of the pages I had open. So I just started closing pages the next time it happened until it turned off.
