Iowa beat UNI by 7 today in Des Moines. Marble had 30, Gesell had 23.

Should go into Big Ten play at 11-2 with two top 50-100 wins (one away from home) and both losses against top 50-100 teams away from home. Just get 9 Big Ten wins and I'll be a happy man.

I'm seeing some pretty realistic paths to 9-9 and I would think that would put them in should they beat a ranked team along the way. I'm getting a little giddy.

Wow your schedule is very favorable. UM, OSU, MSU, and IL as your 1 gamers. And you get the 2 lesser teams of that group at home.

They need to take care of business in their 8 games vs. PSU, Nebraska, Purdue and Northwestern. They should get 5 wins there with a solid chance at 6. If they do that they can get to 9 without any real upsets.

IU's talent was out worked yesterday. That was clear to me from my seat in section 208. IU has to find a way to get Zeller the ball more often, and Zeller has to get more aggressive and demand it.

Right now, Oladipo is the best player on the team. I thought he did a good job on Clarke, and Clarke did a good job of hitting some amazing shots.

I'm not down on this team, they weren't going to go undefeated, and they will certainly lose some more. Interested to see how Elston and Perea get worked into the rotation and what that will do possibly free up Zeller some more.

Yeah, Butler isn't the type of team you can just go in and win based on talent. You gotta be disciplined against them. IU didn't go to Zeller consistently. Didn't get Oladipo, Watford, or Hulls moving enough on offense. Didn't continue to apply pressure on D when it helped them make the comeback in regulation. And as I said yesterday, Crean let Butler dictate the matchups. They had all their bigs foul out and Crean was stupid enough to match them on defense. Watford and Zeller are completely capable of staying with a wing player. And the biggest player on the floor was Khyle Marshall, who hangs out more toward the paint anyway.

They'll still be fine. Probably fall to about #5 or 6. Should be able to get Perea and Elston worked into some meaningless games before the conference season starts. By the time they get tested again, they should be able to establish a rotation with the bigs. They are a road win at Iowa and a home win vs. Minnesota away from another 9 game winning streak starting Wednesday.

Elston participated fully in pre-game warm ups yesterday.

Yeah, I didn't get some of the decision Crean made, especially in OT. All of Butler's bigs had fouled out, at that point Zeller should have had the ball down low on every possession.

I think Perea's biggest contribution can be on defense and rebounding, this team could really use that right now.

Why do we play so bad against crap teams?

This game should be a blowout if not for turnovers. We have a small sample size of away games, but so far Illinois has played much better on the road or on neutral courts. That is the complete opposite of any Illinois team I can remember.

Does Bertrand remind anyone else of Marcus Liberty?

I'm not old enough to know. But wasn't Marcus like 6'8"?

Yes, but Bertrand is 6'5-6'6", so not a huge difference. I'm not quite sure what it is about him, but I have had the thought several times.

I don't get why D.J. Richardson gets to play 30 plus minutes every game. Especially the games whe he isn't making shots.

For at least 29 of those minutes, nobody even knows he is on the floor.

I noticed the 6 turnovers, the 1 for 5 from the field, and the kid he was supposed to be guarding going crazy.

It hasn't always been pretty, but I am satisfied that Illinois has avoided the "bad resume" loss in the early part of the season. From here on out, there is nobody they could lose to who would be viewed as a complete disaster by the tournament committee. I still think they will have some struggles in the Big 10 schedule, but they have given themselves enough of a cushion to allow for some tough stretches in the Big 10 and still get a decent seed in the tournament.
