barney hitting second isn't a huge deal, but it is disheartening. i was hopeful we were past doing stupid things of this nature.

 

It's a little bit comparable to the Reed Johnson signing. In the long run it's pretty immaterial, but it's still an annoyance that seems completely out of place with this new regime.

Like I said before, as long as Castro is somewhere between 1 and 3 I don't think it particularly matters who hits everywhere else. Barney hitting 2nd is probably sub-optimal, but the alternatives aren't so inspiring that the difference between them is probably eaten up by variance. But I like Barney, so if others see him as some sub .300 OBP lock then I understand the frustration a bit more.

I think Castro can hold down third, if the team is going to do anything this year it is going to be because of a many career years from the pitching staff. I think Barney hits .300 this year... Unfortunately his OBP will still be under .330. Soriano has to have a monster season for this team to do anything, unfortunately without medical assistance 36 year olds do not generally do this.
