Can he succeed long-term with a substandard ability to throw? I think that's the real question. He's done it short term. Year 2, year 3 -- much different story.

depends on what you mean by succeed. i think a guy can be a reasonably effective qb as a bad thrower if he can make good decisions and add plays with his legs that most other guys can't. he could probably be at least average... average being not that difficult a bar to reach considering that bums like blaine gabbert and rex grossman and tarvaris jackson are starting qb's. there's zero chance that a qb can be elite without being able to throw.

but i think a lot of the backlash has been because so many people give him credit for turning the broncos even though five of the games "he won" were games in which both teams scored fewer than 20 points - meaning that the wins were largely produced by the broncos' defense. even with his running ability and the handful of big plays, tebow really was pretty lousy this year.

I personally don't even like Tebow that much and the stuff that surrounds him is annoying. I just find it interesting to see if an unconventional, successful college QB can hold his own in the NFL.

i think the thing that amuses me most about the tebow debate is the devoutly Christian people who are huge fans and defenders of him simply because he's overtly Christian.

I find it amusing that others have a problem with people liking a player because they think he's a good person.

there are a lot of good people in the nfl. a lot of devout Christians, too. they just don't make a big deal about it or incorporate it into their touchdown celebration.

i'm guessing there were some nice Christian guys on pittsburgh who are quite sad right now.

True, but you said "overtly" Christian, not just Christian. Tebow is proud of his beliefs and those beliefs include glorifying God in all that he does. People love Tebow because he makes a big deal out of it. It's the most important part of his life, as it should be for all Christians. It's not just that he says he's a Christian, it's that he has the courage to accept the scrutiny that comes from being "overtly" Christian.

i shouldn't have even launched into this tangent. my point was that i find it amusing that i know eagle and viking fans who defend his football abilities because he's overtly Christian. if he were just some schmuck with a bad qb rating and bad completion percentage they'd goof on him or not care. ain't no eagle fans telling me that tarvaris jackson or josh freeman are underrated and better than their stats.

Yeah, but Eagles fans are the most racist and worst people on earth.

Hey, the fans of the other Philly teams are going to throw batteries at you for forgetting them

The worst part is that Tebow's game is completely overshadowing TJ Yates stellar 11-20, 1 TD, 0 INT dominating 31-10 win.

This is the kind of thing that needs a "like" button

Well, the Broncos continue to entertain whether it's Tebow, the rest of the team, or the media/fans fixation on Tebow.

For that I'm thankful. I thought tonight's game would be a laugher, and instead I got entertaining NFL football.

For half the yardage and nothing on the ground. If it wasn't Tebow none of you would be arguing against him having a good game.

I don't think anyone is saying he had a bad game.

But man, let's not sell this Yates guy short. He can beat you so many ways! Take away his pass? No problem. Take away his run? No problem. He'll just rally the defense around him. Those are intangibles you just can't coach. Can you imagine the pressure that kid was under? Texans had NEVER been in the playoffs, nevermind won a playoff game! They told him he'd never make. He's a 5th round pick, he'll never amount to anything! But then he just goes out there and wins the Pepsi NFL Player of the Week and the Texans first playoff game EVER.

This weekend went absolutely perfectly. The Lions and Steelers are out, the three NFC teams with the best chance of beating GB still remain, and Tebow-mania will reach a new level this week. So far this is as enjoyable as a Bears-less playoffs can be.

beating a team with a hobbled quarterback missing a third of its defense doesn't make them a better team.

LOLOL your argument is that a defense playing with five pro bowlers (two defensive players of the year) couldn't contain Tebow because they were without their nose tackle and Brett Keisel for some of the game

This goes against all logic, but I just have this feeling that the Texans will be hosting the Broncos in the AFC championship game. It's like 2008 when the crappy Cardinals somehow hosted the NFC championship game against the 9-6-1 Eagles who needed considerable help to get into the playoffs.

This is embarrassing.

Seriously, pro bowlers? Lame. At least try to make a solid argument.

Now, I'm not say all the guys missing are ridiculously important cogs in the Pittsburgh defense, but when you have to try to replace 2 of 3 starting defensive linemen in game, you're probably screwed. Especially when you're facing a guy like Tebow who runs all over the place and discipline is paramount in containing him. There were a lot of plays in the second half where a starting d line guy probably would have been in position to make a stop and instead, Tebow ran for 10 or 12 yards. Plus, a few of the big pass plays he did make, I have a feeling the starting Pro Bowl safety who wasn't able to play might have had a hand in preventing.

i feel like SSR is just pulling a kyle on us (taking the unpopular side just so he can argue)

I'm pretty sure it was just a green font whiff. Which is surprising with him being a Celtics fan.

Too bad Ryan Clark couldn't play.

The Ravens have to be thrilled that the Steelers are out.

If any team is thrilled, it's the Patriots.
