Mike Reinfeldt, who has served as general manager for the past five seasons, has been promoted to chief opeating officer to replace Steve Underwood, who retired in July.

Ruston Webster, who has been the Titans vice president of player personnel, is Tennessee's new general manager.

Not sure how, if at all, this will affect decision making in Nashville.

I can only hope that the new coordinator realizes he has no linebackers outside of Vilma and that Will Smith is ridiculously overrated. That and maybe preaching sound defense instead of relying on blitzes and takeaways. The Rams have been had.

I was never a huge fan of Williams if for no other reason that he constantly played Scott Shanle who has never been good and has been especially terrible the last two years. Martez Wilson needed to be playing LB every game this year. Dude can be a beast.

tez is a physical specimen, but he tends to lose interest at times.

Yes and yes. This season's team sack leader was safety Roman Harper. It's good that he he adept at getting to the QB because he couldn't cover anyone.

Well, if Spagnuolo takes over, that will all depend on how much influence Payton gives him over personnel. Spags is big on his guys (not unusual) but a lot of his guys aren't very good. One thing we found out early on is that he doesn't think much of outside linebackers, so unless he's overruled, I wouldn't expect any big names to complement Vilma.

His defense requires an aggressive front four since he blitzes in moderation. And somehow, some way he can make due with some very poor cornerbacks. The Rams were literally hauling in guys off the street and they were semi-productive. Al Harris was having a pretty good season and he was 35. I would expect the Saints to be vastly improved in their secondary with Spags.

Not necessarily. I don't think Williams has lost his touch and I trust that Fisher would recognize if he had. The Rams have some good pieces in their secondary which makes Gregggg's relentless blitzing more effective.

His physique reminds me a whole lot of Patrick Willis. If he can be coached up to be just half the LB P-Willy is, I'd be thrilled.

The D-line of the Saints has some decent talent with Will Smith and recent 1st rounders Sedrick Ellis and Cameron Jordan. I'd like to see them do more though.

This is my biggest issue with GW. That line was not bad at all and had depth, yet their pass rush was almost nonexistent.

I agree about Martez. I NEVER understood how Shanle saw the field over him. Even Dunbar played better.

I would say the secondary is a bit of a strength for the Saints, Harper excluded, especially when you consider there was no heat on the QB and they were left on an island half the time because of all the blitzing.

Count me in for Spags, although I've been hearing a ton about Nolan.

The Saints blitzed more than any team in the NFL this season.

I agree that the Rams have more players for Williams to scheme around, but a defensive game plan based on blitzing all the freakin' time cannot be consistent against good QBs. Many of them beg for you to blitz them.

Also, how do you play man coverage in the last 1:50 of the game when the other team needs to go the length of the field? I'm not saying play prevent defense, but really?!? That Vernon Davis guy is pretty good. Maybe double coverage was in order?

ATL already hired Nolan.

Dick LeBeau really likes to blitz and his Steelers defenses have been really, really good. Gregg Williams was incredibly successful as the DC for the Titans in the late 90s, early 2000s and working with Fisher again might be what he needs.

I think it's a good hire for the Rams.

Dolphins hire Packers OC Joe Philbin as head coach.

Philbin had been the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator since 2007 and had been part of the staff there since 2003.

In getting the Dolphins' job, Philbin beat out Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles.

The Colts have made some interesting interviews so far, as their candidates to this point are Titans DC Jerry Gray, Saints OC(?) Pete Carmichael, and now former Vikings HC Brad Childress.

Despite the fall from grace, that apparently hasn't stopped the Colts from professing an interest in Childress for their coaching vacancy, at least according to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network.

Childress was in Philadelphia prior to becoming the Vikings head coach and therefore as a connection to new Colts GM Ryan Grigson, who also came from the Eagles.

Opinions on Joe Philbin?

Some Packer players (Matt Flynn, I think?) have said he's the best coach at in-game adjustments they've ever been around. That's all I've got, though.

Wow!

The history of the NFL is littered with college coaches who failed miserably. I don't see it.

Jimmy Johnson was successful. Who else? Don't say Barry Switzer. Bobby Ross?

Yeah, I don't see Kelly doing well in the NFL since most of his college success has come from the type of offense he runs which won't work in the NFL.

It's early but I think Harbaugh will end up very successful.

Oh yeah, Harbaugh. I think that guy will turn out to be a great coach. Tressell or Kelly on the other hand...

Yeah, Harbaugh has a strong NFL pedigree though. Plus he's not a gimmick guy like many college coaches are.

Broncos DC Dennis Allen to be the next head coach of the Raiders. That makes him the 2nd Aggie head coach in the NFL (Gary Kubiak is the other). I wonder how many schools have more than one.

Eastern Illinois University has both Shannahan and Sean Payton (and Brad Childress would make 3 if he ever gets another job)
