Lovie certainly has his issues but his players play hard for him. Maybe in 1-2 years but right now I'd rather not get rid of him now. Too much shakeup for an organization that has a team that can contend with a couple of good moves.

I'm not all that ecstatic about Angelo being gone, he was no Hendry. The Bears were pretty good under his watch, and they would have had a great season this year if his biggest acquisition, Cutler, didn't get hurt. But there is definitely plenty of room for improvement throughout the organization. I'd hate to see the new group try and go the Cubs way and unnecessarily start from scratch. I'm also skeptical about "the new group" being anything more than a slight transition from within. Ted Philips is to the Bears what so many people think Crane Kenney is to the Cubs. He's an accountant who has too much impact on the football side of the business.

It'll be tough to go the "Cubs route" in the NFL with no minor leagues. I'm just excited because I hated Angelo's draft strategy.

This might be a sign of Lovie/Martz winning some sort of power struggle inside the organization. Jerry was the one who pushed Caleb Hanie on people. Martz clearly never wanted anything to do with the kid, but Jerry refused to give him another veteran this year (a move I supported). Jerry gave Tice garbage to work with on the line and nothing to work with at receiver. This move may only signal that Jerry is out and Lovie/Martz/Tice/Marinelli will have one last go of making it work with some sort of player personel guy running the draft and signing guys, as opposed to a new real GM.

The Bears sent out an internal email Tuesday morning announcing that Angelo, who had a contract through 2013, is no longer with the organization. The decision came two days after the Bears finished 8-8, the fourth time in five seasons the franchise has not reached the playoffs.

The club has yet to announce a move and until chairman of the board George McCaskey has been heard from, speculation will be that the removal of Angelo might just be the first in a series of moves. When business ended Monday, it appeared only the fate of offensive coordinator Mike Martz was in serious doubt. Now, everyone’s future is in question as a new general manager could bring with him a new coach.

Also some dude on twitter suggested the Polians. Ugh they might be the only guys to have a worse drafting track record over the last 4-5 years than Angelo.

Specifically I'm talking about a guy who won't be motivated to WIN NOW in Urlacher/Peppers/Briggs potential last year of being good, and who may not be married to the idea of winning with Cutler. There's definitely people in football who don't like Jay.

Yeah, they were obvious potential candidates even prior to Angelo being dismissed. I was thinking yesterday they might be hired to replace Philips. Now, who knows, but it could be scary to have them running the whole thing.

I hear ya. But we might also be able to get someone in here that knows how to draft offense. I understand both sides of it. I guess at this point I was ready for a change. Might be a case of "be careful what you wish for", but that's where I'm at.

YES!!!! best way to start the new year as far as sports goes for me. Angelo miserably failed in having a 2nd QB and a competent O-line for many years. Those were obviously the most glaring errors in recent years.

Yeah, the old "didn't have a 2nd QB issue" was always hanging over his head.

This could be the first in a series of moves where McCaskey breaks from family tradition in the football business with an aggressive approach at rebuilding.

Thrilled to see this. Don't care who we get, as long as they want to build around Cutler and give him an actual chance. Someone who won't turn his nose up at WR's and O- linemen.

Sure, there's room for improvement, but in a salary cap league the Bears did well under Angelo. A lot of other guys have done a lot worse with the same resources that he had.

On the bright side, the new guy doesn't have to acquire a franchise QB (the toughest thing for personel people to do). But we still don't know that there will be a new guy running things.

The Bears announced a 4 p.m. press conference and in it they said team president Ted Phillips fired Angelo, eliminating speculation whether or not he retired.

@thekapman

Haha, I saw that on twitter too. Only an idiot like David Kaplan.

I certainly hope they are not simply givng the job to Tim Ruskell. I'd rather have Angelo tbh.

That'd be a pretty pointless move.

Off the top of my head, I wouldn't mind DeCosta(sp?) from Baltimore. They always seem to have really good drafts.

Haha...after the failed trade during the draft, I'd guess that he might not love the Bears that much.
